WWE NXT Heatwave 2024 Recap

After an eventful WWE Money In The Bank PLE the night before, NXT Heatwave aimed to follow up a lively Premium Live Event with another all-time classic event in Canada.

The main event featured a fatal four-way for the NXT Championship between Trick Williams, Je’Von Evans, Shawn Spears, and Ethan Page. Je’Von Evans could be the youngest world champion in WWE history, breaking Randy Orton’s long-standing record if he wins in the main event.

NXT Heatwave also featured title matches for the North American and Women’s North American titles, the NXT Women’s Championship, and the brand’s tag titles. USA Today predicted that Trick Williams would win the fatal four-way, Roxanne Perez would retain her title, Sol Ruca would beat Kelani Jordan for the Women’s North American Championship, Frazer & Axiom would retain their tag titles, and Oba Femi would retain his NA title.

Let’s see if they were right in their predictions.

The NXT Tag Team Title Match

Winner: Nathan Fraser and Axiom

Fraser and Axiom showed why they deserved to retain the NXT Tag Team titles against the team of Andrew Chase and Duke Hudson of Chase U. Fraser and Axiom’s chemistry was great, but Duke Hudson held it down as Andrew Chase was recovering on the outside for an extended period.

Andrew Chase did save the match at one point by stepping on the pin and hitting Axiom with a Canadian Destroyer. But Axiom and Fraser were too much for Chase U to handle.

The Women’s Championship Title Match

Lola Vice tried to end the match quickly with one submission after another. Yet, Roxanne Perez showed a darker side to her in this match. She aimed for Lola’s arm throughout the match, which hindered her ability to execute submission moves. It seemed like Perez could have finished Lola with the cross-face and two Pop Rox moves, but Lola kept fighting.

After hitting a Pop Rox move on the announcer table, Roxanne Perez hit a series of Pop Rox finishers on Lola Vice to put her away.

WWE NXT North American Title Match

Winner: Oba Femi

Oba Femi and Wes Lee pulled off a classic David vs Goliath match. The Cardiac Kid almost overcame the giant with the Cardiac Kick, but the strength of Oba Femi was too much to overcome. Femi also hit Wes Lee with what looked like an F-20 rather than an F-5, which caught the crowd off guard.

Women’s North American Title Match

Winner: Kelani Jordan

The two former gymnasts competed in what many could argue was the match of the night at NXT Heatwave. The fans got a great title defense from Kelani Jordan. Sol Ruca hit a unique 450 buckshot lariat on Jordan. With a series of aerial moves and counters, these two women left it all in the ring.

Fatal Four Way For The NXT Championship

Winner: Ethan Page

Trick Williams held his own in the fatal four-way. The dynamic of two heels (Spears & Page) and two faces (Evans & Williams) being in the match worked well in the match’s storytelling. Je’Von Evans could have broken Randy Orton‘s record for the youngest world champion in WWE history, yet it wasn’t in the cards tonight.

There were several spots, from Evans clearing a turnbuckle post to land on Trick Williams and Evans reversing a top rope maneuver from Spears to hit him with a cutter to Trick Williams pushing Evans from the top rope to breaking the announcer table.

Other spots included Spears stepping back to avoid Trick’s knee to hit a sharpshooter. Ethan Page hit a fantastic Ego’s Edge on Trick Williams, only for Evans to drag Trick’s foot on the rope for a rope break.

However, Ethan Page got the pin after Trick Williams couldn’t break up Page’s pin on Je’Von Evans.
