The WWE Championship match for Summerslam 2024 saw some major developments on the Smackdown before the Premium Live Event. The main event for Summerslam will see “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes defend his WWE Championship against “The New Tribal Chief” Solo Sikoa. However, the stipulation of Bloodline Rules was added for this match.
Let’s take a deeper dive into how this will affect Summerslam as a whole and the match in itself.
Will Cody Rhodes retain the WWE Championship?

Cody Rhodes is entering Summerslam 2024 as the WWE Champion as he won the title during the main event of Wrestlemania 40 Night 2 against Roman Reigns. However, making this a Bloodline Rules match adds a bit more intrigue to the match. With the rumors surrounding the return of the real “Tribal Chief” Roman Reigns on Saturday night to dethrone Solo Sikoa and take his spot back at the head of the table, it will be interesting to see if Reigns returns.
While we will not see a Men’s Money in the Bank cash-in attempt as the briefcase has been used already, there could be some surprises still in store for the Bloodline Rules match. Could we see a certain “Final Boss” in Dwayne Johnson? The belief is that The Rock will be feuding with the original Bloodline members of Roman Reigns, The Usos and a fourth member going forward against the new iteration of the group. However, that does not answer the question of who will be the WWE Champion.
Despite a lackluster beginning to his WWE Championship reign, it seems like there is more meat on the bone for Cody Rhodes with the title. Remember that if Rhodes loses then the title is being held by Solo Sikoa and that does not seem like who the company wants to position in that role as of right now. Expect to see Cody Rhodes walk out of Summerslam as the WWE Champion but it may not be the biggest part of the story for this main event.
There will likely be a few championships changing hands during Summerslam 2024 but the WWE Championship should remain in the hands of Cody Rhodes right now. There is still more to do, like a match with Randy Orton to name one.
