REPORT: 2x WWE Champion’s Contract Expires Soon

Bobby Lashley WWE Champion

According to reports, a former WWE Champion could be leaving the company soon. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reports that former WWE Champion Bobby Lashley’s contract is set to expire within the next month or so. PWN also has reported something similar to this as they reported Lashley has been removed from the internal roster page but is still be featured on WWE’s official website.

Lashley has been out for a number of months and Fightful Select is reporting that he plans to continue wrestling, even if it is not with WWE. The report states that he has not been factored into creative plans since the spring. While there has not been any rumored aspirations of returning to fighting, Fightful Select says that it is not out of the realm of possibility either. It will certainly be interesting to see what the former WWE Champion does in the future.

What is the most intriguing option for the former WWE Champion going forward?

Bobby Lashley has a lengthy career as he is currently 48 years old and has done a lot of winning championships throughout his pro wrestling career. He is a two-time WWE Champion, two-time ECW Champion and a four-time TNA/Impact World Champion, so he has proven his ability to be the top of the card.

This will be an interesting time in his career to decide what is best for him going forward. His last match on television was during the April 12 edition of SmackDown, where e lost a triple threat match to be the number-one contender for the WWE Championship against LA Knight and Santos Escobar. His last match at all, according to CageMatch, was on May 5 in a live event.

The former WWE Champion will have some options but entering the world of MMA once again likely is not the best idea at 48 years old. However, a trip down memory lane to TNA Wrestling would make some sense. It would be doubtful that he would enter the forbidden door between the company and WWE NXT though. He could go to Japan and wrestle as an attraction but moving across the world may not be what he wants to do either.

Enter Tony Khan, the owner of All Elite Wrestling. This could be something that adds name power to the show for a casual audience. AEW does not have guys the size of Bobby Lashley littered on their roster so he could be an imposing threat too. There is always the possibility that he will re-sign with WWE and that cannot be taken off of the table either. Only one man knows what is next for himself and we will have to wait until a decision is officially made one way or another.
