The World Series Will Not Go Through Texas In 2024

The World Series will not go through the state of Texas for the first time in years.

For the first time since 2018, the World Series will not be contested in the state of Texas. The last five World Series have held connections to Texas. In 2019, the Houston Astros lost the World Series to the Washington Nationals, and in 2020 the World Series took place at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Houston Astros were bested in the 2021 “Fall Classic” by the Atlanta Braves but won the next year against the Philadelphia Phillies. The fifth season of this streak saw the Texas Rangers defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2023 World Series. This season’s World Series could not be any further from ‘The Lone Star State.” It will instead be contested in “The Bronx” and Los Angeles. Will either the Houston Astros or Texas Rangers be able to rebound in 2025 so the state of Texas can host the World Series next season?

Yankees-Dodgers Meet In Marquee World Series Matchup

The 2024 World Series features a matchup that Major League Baseball has been waiting decades for, and will have a chance to see play out this season. The New York Yankees will get to face the Los Angeles Dodgers for a chance to be crowned champion. New York and Los Angeles have met in the “Fall Classic” 11 previous times with New York holding an 8-3 record. Their last matchup came in 1981 which LA won in six games. This is the most common World Series matchup in Major League Baseball history.

This year’s iteration of the “Fall Classic” will feature the two most star-studded teams in the league and will see the two best players in the league go head-to-head. Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani are presumed to win their respective league’s MVP Award and are the faces of Major League Baseball. Judge and Ohtani are far from the only superstars which will be a part of the 2024 World Series. Los Angeles features former MVP winners Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman.

The New York Yankees feature former NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton, perennial MLB All-Star Juan Soto, and reigning CY Young Award winner Gerrit Cole. With two storied franchises, and a roster chalked full of stars, the 2024 World Series will go down in the history books.

Final Thoughts

Even though the 2024 World Series will not be played in Texas, the state had a great postseason run. Both the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros are expected to rebound following disappointing 2024 seasons. The defending champion Texas Rangers finished 78-84 and failed to qualify for the MLB Playoffs. The Houston Astros(88-73) won the National League West in 2024 but shockingly lost two consecutive home games in the Wild Card Round against the Detroit Tigers. In what has been a benchmark 2024 MLB season, only two teams remain with a World Series title hanging in the balance.
