The iconic WNBA superstar and multiple-time MVP A’ja Wilson landed a lucrative shoe deal with Nike. Her deal was officially announced on Saturday before her Aces played a preseason exhibition against the Puerto Rico national women’s basketball team.
A’ja posted a photo on social media wearing a hoodie that said, “Of course, I have a shoe dot com,” which was a URL that directed fans to the NIKE website to check out the shoe. It feels like it’s been long overdue for A’ja to land a major shoe deal based on her dominant play style and make history with the Aces to be the first WNBA team to be repeat champions.

The WNBA superstar’s shoe, the A’One, will officially launch in 2025. In a press release by the iconic sportswear brand, A’ja said, “It’s been incredible working with Nike toward a dream of having my collection, and it really is an honor to take this next step and become a Nike signature athlete.”
She added, “From my logo to the look of the shoe and the pieces throughout the collection, we’ve worked to make sure every detail is perfectly tuned to my game and style.”

A’ja Wilson is the first Black WNBA player to have a signature shoe to have a signature shoe since Candace Parker in the 2010-2011 season. She is also the first Black WNBA player to have a Nike deal since Sherryl Swoopes in 2002.
It’s truly a great thing to see the WNBA get much more recognition from different brand companies. Caitlin Clark secured her own shoe deal with Nike earlier this year. LA Sparks superstar Lexie Brown and others have partnerships with Skims. Eventually, Kelsey Plum will have a cigar deal if she doesn’t have one yet.
How Would The WNBA Grow This Season?

Thanks to the increase of nationally televised Indiana Fever games due to the Caitlin Clark hype, it can garner more eyes toward the product. Angel Reese, who has the largest social media following out of her rookie class, can create an audience for the younger demographic in grade school and college.
One of the main factors in how the WNBA would succeed is if people go to the games. Sure, Caitlin Clark has all the hype around her, but with stars like A’ja Wilson, Angel Reese, Breanna Stewart, and more, there are veterans and rookies that anyone can become fans of.
