Wings vs. Sun – Preview

The Dallas Wings hope to end their eight-game losing skid against the Connecticut Sun when they teams collide on Saturday.

Connecticut Sun

Let’s start with the road team first. The Connecticut Sun began their season with victories in each of their first nine games. That streak ended with an 82-75 loss to the New York Liberty on June 8.

Following that loss, the Sun have bounced back nicely with wins over the Indiana Fever (89-72) and, most recently, the Chicago Sky (83-75). In the team’s win over Chicago, Four of Connecticut’s starting five scored in double figures.

Alyssa Thomas scored a team-high 20 points (including 10 in the final frame) on 9-for-13 shooting from the field. She also had seven rebounds, six steals, and four assists. Brionna Jones finished with 18 points (14 of which came in the first half), connecting on seven of her 12 attempts from the floor.

DeWanna Bonner added 16 points, eight boards, and three assists. But she shot just 25 percent from the field (4-for-16), and she missed all seven attempts from beyond the arc. Tyasha Harris contributed 13 points, seven assists and four rebounds.

The Sun previously defeated the Wings by a 74-72 margin when these teams clashed on May 31. They will be looking to extend their winning streak to three games against the team with the second-worst scoring defense and defensive rating.

Dallas Wings

WNBA

Meanwhile, the Wings got off to a decent start this season, winning three of their first five contests. Since then, though, the narrative has been vastly different. Dallas has dropped each of its last six contests, including a 92-84 loss to the Seattle Storm on Thursday night.

As was the case with Connecticut in its previous outing, the Wings placed four starters in double figures in their loss to the Storm. Arike Ogunbowale scored a team-high 24 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals. She has scored at least 20 points in every game this season and has been the team’s leading scorer in each of its 11 games.

Teaira McCowan added 19 points, 10 boards, and three blocks on 6-for-7 shooting from the floor and 7-for-8 from the charity stripe. Maddy Siegrist contributed 16 points and a pair of assists, while Monique Billings finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

Will the Wings’ misery continue, or can they snap their losing skid against the league’s top team?
