With Bash in Berlin 2024 taking place on August 31st, 2024, fans have been speculating as to whether or not Kevin Owens will turn on Cody Rhodes considering his recent demeanor on Friday Night Smackdowns. This was talked about in the August 23rd edition of Smackdown as both Grayson Waller and Austin’s Theory explained how Owens cannot be trusted.
Owens has a history of turning on his friends and also teased a turn on the most recent show. With him facing off against Rhodes for his Undisputed WWE Championship, there is a chance that he may end up cheating to win the championship. Despite being by Cody’s side for the past two years, Kevin has always attempted to gain the world title when it was held by Roman Reigns, so he may be desperate to do whatever it takes.
Kevin Owens Has a History of Turning on Friends
Kevin Owens has a huge past of turning on his so called friends, something that has spanned nearly a decade. Although something like this has not happened in around three years, and it seems like Owens is a changed person, there is always a chance that the prizefighter could revert to his heelish ways.
Grayson Waller and Austin Theory both discussed this on the ‘Grayson Waller Effect‘, as they had Cody Rhodes as their guest in the opening segment of Smackdown. They then showed Rhodes a video package of all the times that Kevin Owens has gained people’s trust just to stab them in the back.
This was seen multiple times with Sami Zayn, with the first and most recent moments of Kevin turning on his friends who were against him. Other names that were seen in the video package included the likes of Kofi Kingston, Chris Jericho, and John Cena, all people who Owens manipulated into being by his side just for him to turn on them.
Owens Heel Turn Teased on Smackdown
In the main event of Friday Night Smackdown, Kevin Owens and Cody Rhodes decided to team up against Grayson Waller and Austin Theory after their antics in the opening segment. Before going out there, Owens assured Cody that he was a changed man and that he would never turn his back on Cody no matter what happened. Rhodes then told him that he’d take him at his word and that they needed to focus on their tag team match.
Rhodes and Owens had a competitive match with A-Town Down Under, and they were able to defeat Waller and Theory after Owens hit Waller with a pop-up powerbomb. After the match, Owens grabbed Cody Rhodes’ championship to hand it to him, but it seemed as if he was teasing a heel turn as he ran up to Rhodes while his back was turned. That seemed like a hint of what is going to happen either at or after Bash in Berlin, which could mean that this feud lasts multiple PLEs.
Could This Feud Continue Until Bad Blood?
If Kevin Owens turns on Cody Rhodes, this likely means that their friendly rivalry will turn into a longer feud that could come to an end in Bad Blood 2024. It would certainly meet the theme of the Premium Live Event and will be a spot where many high-end rivalries will be coming to an end.
This potential Bad Blood match could also see interference by ‘The Viper’ Randy Orton, as many fans have been speculating that Orton will turn on his former faction member Rhodes and take his Undisputed WWE Championship. It could also be a match that is met by a stipulation, as that is the case with many rivalries that become personal and last multiple PLEs.
Final Thoughts
It seems inevitable that Kevin Owens will turn on Cody Rhodes either at Bash in Berlin or the Smackdown after, and it will continue the pattern of him constantly betraying the people closest to him. However, it’s unlikely that Owens will take the title off of Rhodes as he has not been booked as one of WWE’s top stars in the past few years.
