Will Courtenay Completes Red Bull Contract
McLaren did not provide a date on when they will officially start the process in its announcement. When Will Courtenay moves to work there, he will be working under the supervision of McLaren’s racing director, Randeep Singh. McLaren team principal Andrea Stella showed optimism about his new position and described him as a knowledgeable and passionate motorsport professional. They mentioned that
“We are delighted to welcome Will to McLaren. His experience, professionalism and passion for motorsport make him the ideal candidate to lead our F1 sporting function. We are now entering a key phase in our journey as a team, and we are confident that he will be a great addition to our strong leadership team as we strive to continue challenging for wins and championships.”
Red Bull’s Staff Exodus Continues

Will Courtenay’s departure marks the third senior figure to leave Red Bull in just five months. Aston Martin Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey was the first to jump ship in what he described as an early release. In the same month, sporting director Jonathan Wheatley also joined Red Bull’s exodus by moving to Sauber, which will become Audi.
Joining McLaren in 2026, he will work alongside Rob Marshall, McLaren’s chief designer, who also left Red Bull at the end of last year. The two were previously employed by the Red Bull team during the period of victory. It seems that his joining will enhance their improvement and will counter the issues they face.
Red Bull Yet to Officially Respond
Still, up to now, the company has not shared its official statement about Will Courtenay’s decision to leave Red Bull after his contract expires. But BBC Sport was informed of this fact from a source within the team. He said that,
After a long and successful service, being with the team since the Jaguar days, we are sad to see Will go but wish him all the best in this step up. Will continues to be part of the team, seeing out his contract until mid-2026.
The relationship in how the two organizations aim to dominate F1 racing events will be quite interesting to follow in the future, given that he is planning to relocate soon and certain recent changes in Red Bull and McLaren. His joining will benefit the McLaren racing team a lot, as he is considered one of the smartest strategists in the industry.
