Aaron Donald’s time on the Rams may not be done. Rams GM Les Snead made an appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show.” Snead discussed the state of the Rams and what to expect for the 2024 NFL Season. Snead alluded to the possibility of maybe having Aaron Donald rejoin the team this season.
That was a shocking turn of events! Aaron Donald retired earlier this year after the 2023 NFL season. Aaron Donald has nothing to prove; he is the greatest player in this generation. No question about it. His contributions to the 2022 Super Bowl-winning team were paramount for the Rams in that run. Some say Aaron Donald could have won Super Bowl MVP that year; he was that good.
So, will Aaron Donald return to the Rams?
Aaron Donald Could Win One More Super Bowl
The Los Angeles Rams are no strangers to bringing back veterans for Super Bowl runs. Eric Weddle came out of retirement and won a Super Bowl with the Rams back in 2022. Weddle was integral in helping solidify the team’s defense. One more piece on a team can sometimes be the difference between winning and losing a championship.
Snead spoke about that with Rich Eisen today, stating, “I did mention to Aaron that going back to our Super Bowl run, there was a player by the name of Eric Weddle who kind of jumped into the playoffs,” Snead said. “We signed him to the practice squad, and we standard elevated him for four straight games to a Super Bowl championship. So, I did mention if we happen to get to the playoffs again, maybe we’ll circle back and see if the cup’s not quite filled.”
Aaron Donald Has Unfinished Business
It was a difficult end to the 2023 season for the Los Angeles Rams. It was a season where the team was hampered by injuries and even QB Matthew Stafford was injured in that final play-off loss against the Detroit Lions. Aaron Donald had a pretty healthy season, aside from some late-season groin issues, but nothing major. The reality is Aaron Donald can’t be happy with how that season ended.
The Rams suffered a painful loss against an old friend, Jared Goff, and the Detroit Lions in a loss that stung many of the players, including Aaron Donald. The Rams felt they could have a longer playoff run, and next season, they will be fighting for a title again. They still have the core pieces in Matthew Stafford and Head Coach Sean McVay. As long as those two guys are around, you can’t count the Rams out. It’s rare for a team to just be one or two players away from a Super Bowl. The question is, will Aaron Donald be the final piece when playoff time comes again?
