The Liverpool manager has revealed why he didn’t include Mohammed Salah at the start of the game during their recent clash against Manchester City on Sunday. Indeed the Reds have received a significant boost as Salah returned for the Europa League victory. He was just in time for a crucial match at Anfield, having played only once since sustaining a hamstring injury. This happened while representing Egypt at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. However, he wasn’t lined up at the start of the game against Manchester City.

In the recent Liverpool game against Manchester City, Mohamed Salah was named on the bench. It was shocking to fans not to see him at the start of the game. The player just returned to full-team training earlier this week due to the injury he sustained in their recent game. Jurgen Klopp explains why Salah wasn’t lined up at the start of the game. The likes of several others were absent as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Jurgen Klopp said Mohamed Salah was never in contention to start for Liverpool vs Manchester City on Sunday, as the Egyptian had to settle for a place on the bench. Klopp revealed that he did not want to risk the Egyptian winger so soon after returning from injury.
“We didn’t even think about him starting the game”. “There are things in life you can learn from, and the last time Mo came back a bit early and was unlucky that he got a little setback.”
Salah has not been in the starting lineup for a Premier League match since Liverpool’s 4-2 victory over Newcastle on the opening day of 2024. Further observation revealed that Salah wasn’t the only big name not starting unfortunately with the likes of Ibrahima Konate, Diogo Jota, and Alisson Becker not even making the squad.
The 31-year-old is aiming to make a significant impact coming off the bench. He has committed to being absent from the Egypt squad during the upcoming international break.
