Wasim Jaffer Advocates for Kohli and Jaiswal as India’s Opening Pair in T20 World Cup 2024

Virat Kohli's Strike Rate Debate: Manjrekar Adds Fuel to the Fire"

In the list of probable T20 World Cup 2024 15-man squads for T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA, former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer has (suggested) prepared the best batting order for the Indian team. In the case of selected players, former opening batsman Pathan recommended Yashasvi Jaiswal to bat along with Kohli in the playing eleven, while Rohit Sharma should bat at three or four for India.

According to Wasim Jaffer, the talented and relatively young Jaiswal, who has been proven successful on the Bihar tour, should open the inning with Kohli. Virat should also open the inning as he is the best opener for the Indian team. To this effect, he opined that this combination could offer a good start to the inning, and if it comes off, the middle order will always take over from where it left off.

Jaffer also expounded on the strategy of the captain of the Indian team, whom he advised should bat at position No. 3 or No. 4. He stated that Rohit Sharma is in a better position to play against quality spin bowlers, and thus he can handle the middle overs of the match.

As stated by Jaffer, there should be no issue with Rohit because he is undoubtedly one of the best players in the world, and there should be no problem with batting lower down the order slightly.

Rohit and why he needs to stick to No. 3 or No. 4

Kohli

This notion is further augmented by analyzing the T20I data of Rohit Sharma, which indicates he has excelled significantly while batting at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots. This man, in those 12 matches in these positions, has made 315 runs on an average of 39. 37. Including four half-centuries. Picking up the best 79* against Australia at the 2010 T20 World Cup, he proved that bringing down the order did not affect him much.

Jaffer’s recommended strategies are mainly strategic, especially focusing on the strengths of each player to match situations. India had Kohli and Jaiswal as openers, and this partnership will pay off because Kohli has experience while Jaiswal is aggressive.

On the same side, Rohit’s versatility and craftsmanship against spin options can ensure a strong middle-order lineup, which India may need to counterbalance the potent batting strength in the big-game competition.

Jaffer’s observations provide insightful viewpoints on how to arrange the batting order for optimum impact to win the coveted trophy as India gets ready for the T20 World Cup in 2024.
