Pakistan’s women’s team had issues in its opening match. Wasim said it was due to not implementing his plan. But he said that he’s seen improvement. Wasim said that the team is on the right track now. “We are on the right track and are ready to take on bigger teams in upcoming matches with the same attitude,” he said in an interview.
The coach wants his players to perform at their highest potential. “If we want to get the best performance from these girls, we must give them the freedom to showcase their talent fully,” he said.
This philosophy works in his team’s bowling, a strong suit. Wasim also said improvements were in fielding and batting, traditionally difficult areas.
“If you want to play modern cricket, you also need modern coaching,” he said in an interview. He credited the hard work in training camp for the team’s recent successes. Wasim’s strategy is to allow players to bat more aggressively. This is reflected in the team’s improved performance.

Adapting to Sri Lanka Conditions

While speaking about the playing conditions in Sri Lanka, Wasim said that conditions favor the spinners. “Our young bowlers have bowled excellently,” he said. One standout performer has been left-arm seamer Tasmia. Her induction into the bowling lineup has helped.  Wasim noted Tasmia’s performance, saying she made a difference in the team’s success.
Looking ahead, Wasim reiterated the team’s objective of winning the Asia Cup. “We’ve come here with the mindset of winning the Asia Cup this time,” he said in an interview. “We believe that our team has that capability, and the confidence in our preparation is there.”
The team has reached the semifinals with two wins in three matches. Under the leadership of Nida Dar, Pakistan plays a second semifinal on July 26 in Dambulla. India is slated to play in the first semifinal on July 26 at the same venue.
The Pakistan women’s cricket team under the coach has grown resilient in Asia Cup 2024. Their journey to the semis has epitomized hard work and dedication. More so, good leadership by him has kept them in high spirits. They are just one step away from taking glory at the Sri Lankan cricket fields.
