Washington Nationals Star Prospect To Debut Tonight

Washington Nationals Dylan Crews

Washington Nationals Outfielder Dylan Crews is expected to make his long-awaited MLB debut tonight at home against the New York Yankees. His debut comes with huge fanfare as he entered the 2024 season as the top prospect in the Washington Nationals organization and the No.5 prospect in the league according to ESPN. How will Crews fare in his debut tonight and over the remainder of the 2024 regular season?

Dylan Crews Career Summary

Crews was the second overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft out of LSU. He was a major component of the LSU Tigers that won the 2023 College World Series. Crews has split time this season between AA(Harrisburg) and AAA(Rochester.) He hit .270 this season with 13 home runs and 68 RBI in the Minor Leagues. After a meteoric few years in professional baseball, Crews will finally get a chance to prove it against one of the most recognizable franchises in all of sports.

Washington Nationals Season Summary

Washington(59-72) is in fourth place in the National League East and 11.5 games out of the third and final National League Wild Card spot. The team’s playoff chances are virtually zero(<0.1%) with 30 games left in the regular season. Washington’s offense has been weak this season, something the team hopes Crews can help with over the final month of the regular season.

The Nationals are 14th in batting average, tied for last in home runs, and 18th in runs scored. Their offense is paced by Second Baseman Luis Garcia Jr. and Shortstop CJ Abrams. Garcia is 18th in the league in batting average and leads the ballclub in RBI while Abrams leads the Washington Nationals in home runs.

The pitching staff of the Washington Nationals has also struggled this season. They are 23rd in ERA, 24th in strikeouts, and 29th in opposing batting average. The pitching staff is led by Jake Irvin and MacKenzie Gore. Irvin leads the team in wins and ERA while Gore leads them in strikeouts. Closer Kyle Finnegan is also third in the league with 32 saves.

Nationals Upcoming Schedule

The Washington Nationals begin a three-game series with the New York Yankees tonight. Washington is on pace to miss the MLB Playoffs for the fifth straight season. With another lost season, one of the few things the team has to look forward to is how one of their top prospects will fare this regular season. Crews will have about 30 games to prove to both himself and the Washington Nationals that he can be a building block in the “Nation’s Capital” for years to come.
