Washington Nationals: Dylan Crews The Next Callup?

Washington Nationals Dylan Crews

Washington Nationals prospect outfielder Dylan Crews is the fourth-ranked prospect in all of baseball, according to MLB.com For now, he is the second-ranked prospect in the Nationals farm system. Outfielder James Wood is still the number one ranked prospect in Washington’s farm system. Wood has played for the Washington Nationals this season after spending some of the 2024 MLB season in the minor leagues. Is Crews the next big-time prospect to be called up to the majors?

September Call-Up Is Possible

Washington Nationals
Dylan Crews

Washington Nationals prospect outfielder Dylan Crews is currently in Triple-A with the Rochester Red Wings. He was the second overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft. Crews won a National Title with the LSU Tigers against the Florida Gators. He was teammates with Pittsburgh Pirates rookie right-handed pitcher Paul Skenes on that LSU team. Skenes was the number one pick in the 2023 MLB Draft by Pittsburgh. It is very possible that Crews could be a September call-up for the Washington Nationals. He is projected to reach the big leagues in 2024. If not, Crews could be on the Opening Day roster for the Washington Nationals in the 2025 season.

Dylan Crews is currently playing in Triple-A with the Rochester Red Wings. He is a right-handed batter and also throws with his right hand. Crews also played with the Harrisburg Senators in Double-A to start the 2024 minor league season. Crews this season has a .261 batting average with nine home runs and 55 RBIs, along with 20 stolen bases. His on-base percentage is .332. Dylan Crews and James Wood will be a part of the long-term plans for the Nationals in the outfield so will Robert Hassell III. Hassell II is currently in Double-A with the Harrisburg Senators.

Washington will not make the playoffs this season, but they could be an interesting team to watch for in September. There is no doubt that people will fill up the stands at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. if Crews is a September call-up. He is a very big prospect to watch for across all of baseball. This would be a huge move for them. The last exciting callup across the big leagues this season was Baltimore Orioles shortstop Jackson Holliday. It would be the same deal here with Dylan Crews because he is a future All-Star in the outfield for the Washington Nationals.

Third baseman Brady House is the third-ranked prospect in the Nationals farm system. House is also in Triple-A with the Rochester Red Wings. He could very well be the future third baseman for the Nationals. C.J. Abrams, Dylan Crews, and James Wood as the future 1-2-3 hitters in the lineup for Washington could get them back into playoff contention in the future also. The Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies are some of the teams that Washington will have to worry about in the National League East.
