Washington Commanders Sign Martavis Bryant

The Washington Commanders created shock waves when they announced they had added long-lost veteran Wide Receiver Martavis Bryant to their roster. It followed a recent workout in which the player participated, which confirms his return to the NFL for the current season. Martavis Bryant, now 32, has been out of the league since 2018 when he played for the Oakland Raiders. His career was already in full gear the moment he was drafted in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. But a series of repeat suspensions forced him away from the league. How will he fare this season?

After his NFL stint, Bryant’s career took him from league to league. Playing in 2021, he signed for Limited Toronto Argonauts but did not get to play for them due to problems in reporting. He also played for a short period with the Massachusetts Pirates in the Indoor Football League. With all these difficulties aside, Bryant continued to pursue his football career.

Next, Bryant looked to continue his second chance in football with the CFL in 2022. He signed with the Edmonton Elks but did not make it to the start of training camp. He would then sign with the Fan-Controlled Football League in February. He made his mark in football with the XFL. He was selected in the 2023 draft by the Vegas Vipers, and through eight games, he caught 14 passes for 154 yards.

Bryant’s Path To Washington

The Washington Commanders have worked out Bryant twice in the past three months. Both of these workouts factored into their decision to sign him today. To make room for him, the Commanders released kicker Ramiz Ahmed, whom they signed in June after the Green Bay Packers cut him. Bryant’s signing brings some experience and depth to the Commanders receiving corps. Although he has not been playing games for a while, his experience on the field and potential for explosive plays will be crucial for the team. They hope Bryant’s presence can help solidify the team’s receiving options.

What To Expect From Bryant

It is a good development in terms of signing Bryant for fans, whose appetites for the new season are fueled by the thought of seeing a potential player return to the field. The Washington Commanders have shown just how risk-taking they are and will go to any length to make additions and adjustments to the squad. In short, Washington has made a bold move to shape this roster with the signing of Martavis Bryant. It will be intriguing to see how these moves will impact the team during the 2024 regular season.
