Washington Commanders Sign Former Cowboys Receiver To Deal

Washington Commanders sign Michael Gallup

The Washington Commanders aren’t pulling any punches this offseason. They have swung two major trades. The first brought in former All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel, and the other solidified the offensive line with Laremy Tunsil. It hasn’t just been trades that have improved the roster. The front office has signed many free agents in the past two weeks, bolstering their roster behind quarterback Jayden Daniels. Another weapon has been added to the roster. Former Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup has signed a deal with the team.

Washington Commanders Sign WR Michael Gallup

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Washington Commanders are bringing in the former Dallas receiver. Michael Gallup had a promising start to his career. In 2019, he caught 66 passes for 1,107 yards and six touchdowns. The next season, he had 59 catches for 843 yards and five touchdowns. Unfortunately, an ACL injury derailed his career. While he was able to get back on the field for the Cowboys, he never returned to form.

The injury recovery was so long that many wondered whether he would have to retire from the game altogether. Washington decided he was worth a look. The former third-round pick out of Colorado State comes into an offense where he doesn’t have to be the featured receiver. Samuel and Terry McLaurin will be the leaders in the wide receiver room, and Michael Gallup will add depth to the room. He is a veteran who can come in if injuries happen or in four or five wide receiver packages.

2025 Outlook

The Washington Commanders hope to build on last season’s surprise run to the NFC Championship Game. Daniels improved throughout the year and now will get a full offseason under his belt. Offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury was not lured away by any team, so the offense will remain mostly the same. The biggest competition is in the division. The Philadelphia Eagles have also been bust this offseason, keeping their Super Bowl-winning team intact.

They will have to stop a juggernaut offense and score on an improving defense. The good news is the team already beat this team last year and has a lot of confidence going into next year. It’s fun to see a team going for it like the Washington Commanders. They were one of the most fun teams to watch last year, and the talent is only increasing on the roster. Not only will they be one of the favorites, but they will be one of the must-watch teams in the league in 2025.
