Washington Commanders Trading DT John Ridgeway To Saints

Washington Commanders jerseys have been released.

The Washington Commanders gave it a thought to keep Defensive Tackle, John Ridgeway. That thought passed 24 hours later, and now he’s with the New Orleans Saints.

According to reports, the Commanders traded Ridgeway and a seventh-round pick to the Saints. In exchange, they got a sixth-round pick. This is only Day Two. He’s not the last to leave for sure.

John Ridgeway was a 2022 fifth-round pick of the Dallas Cowboys. He was claimed off of waivers by the Washington Commanders. His exit is just another player brought in by the old guard, who is now off to do bigger and better things hopefully. He’s not a bad player. He played in every game last season and holds claim to 31 percent of the defensive snaps and 21 percent of the special teams snaps.

He was waived early as a rookie picked up by Washington. Last year he played in all 17 games and was on the field for 31 percent of the Commanders’ defensive snaps and 21 percent of special teams snaps. He started in two games, six overall in his career.

When you put him up against a defensive line that consists of  Clelin Ferrell, Daron Payne, Jonathan Allen, and  Dorance Armstrong, it’s not a hard decision to make, and he’s the right trade if you trade anyone.  However, the move could come back to haunt them if the First string ever gets injured. Why? The Second and Third stringers are already banged up. According to the Washington Commander’s Depth Chart,  defensive tackles Norell Pollard and Taylor Stallworth are on Injured Reserve. Fellow DT  Jer’Zhan Newton is questionable.

Sometimes change is good. Looking at the New Orleans Saints Depth Chart, John Ridgeway goes into a situation that may need some stability, and he can provide that. He’s Third string on the chart, but that could change pending circumstances. New Orleans Football recently reported  DT Starter Khalen Saunders is out with a calf injury and could be out for weeks. Their No.2 is Rookie Khristian Boyd, who had one solo and three assisted tackles during the preseason. Ridgeway could move up their depth chart and be more than a roleplayer.
