Even though the Washington Capitals pulled a 5-3 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, February 22nd, it was without Oshie after the third period. The Washington Capital Right Wing Foward fell to the ice after crossing into the Capitals’ offensive zone. He managed to pull himself up on the boards and crawled his way to Washington’s bench, having skated 16:37 in the game. The 37-year-old did not come back after the third period. He needed assistance to leave the ice and head back to the locker room.

Spencer Carbery, the coach for the Capitals, met with the media after practice and talked about Oshie. Unfortunately, he claims there is “fairly high” concern for the injury. His exact prognosis is still undetermined.
Carbery had to say, “We’ll evaluate. I’ll know more [Friday], but it’s never a good sign when you see a player leaving the ice like that.”
Despite the alarm it may be causing his teammates and coach, Oshie seems confident he will heal and be back on the team. “Got it done for 77,” He posted on social media afterward. “I’ll be back. Thanks for the love caps fans. #NoBadDays”
Oshie Didn’t Leave Empty-Handed
Oshie was able to add to his list of points this season, adding an assist on Anthony Mantha’s goal in the second period. He now boasts 18 points in 38 games. The Capitals are also vying for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and this win nudges them closer to it. They won 5-3 against the Lightning, pushing them within five points of each other. The Capitals are also tied with the Islanders and New Jersey, their Metro Division rivals, with 60 points in the standings for each.
As for what’s going to happen in these upcoming games, Oshie’s attendance is still undetermined.
Carvery elaborated on Oshie’s condition: “Obviously left the game and we’ll just continue to monitor him. I don’t think this is, you know, skating today or tomorrow situation. I don’t want to tell you anything definitively on timeline or anything like that. We’ll just continue to monitor him.”
He was then asked if Oshie’s injury was more or less serious than originally thought.
He replied, ” Yes and no. Just too early to tell. We’re just monitoring him and we’ll know more in the near future.”
T.J. Oshie has undergone previous minor surgeries and injuries in the past that have put him out of previous games. All things considered, it seems this one will be no different and he will return. However, Oshie’s condition has not been updated yet.
