Top spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, has been forced by SRH to be left out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 due to a heel injury.
In March 2024, he was spotted in action. When Sirilanka was on a formal visit to Bangladesh. In the one T20I match he participated in, he claimed two wickets. In the ODI series, he claimed six wickets.
We, all his fans were supposed to make a comeback to test cricket. Yet, after rethinking his retirement, the ICC suspended him for two tests instead. Meanwhile, on March 26th, it was reported that the 26-year-old would be part of the SRH camp a week late due to soreness in his left heel.
At the IPL 2024 auction, Wanindu Hasaranga was purchased by SRH for INR 1.5 crores, his basic price. Before the auction, RCB had let go of him.
Reason Behind Wanindu Hasaranga’s Unavailability in IPL 2024
The Sri Lankan Cricket Board (SLC) has quickly contacted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to confirm the withdrawal of Wanindu Hasaranga from the IPL 2024. In a recent interview, Hasaranga’s manager, Shyam, verified this development.
“I think so. He is not available, and Sri Lanka Cricket has notified the BCCI in writing. He traveled to Dubai for three days in order to receive medical advice. The player’s management, Shyam, informed Cricbuzz that “the expert’s advice is that he should rest rather than participate in the IPL this season given the current situation.”

Money No Factor For Wanindu Hasaranga
Wanindu Hasaranga, who was paid Rs 10.75 crore in the IPL 2022 auction, could get only Rs 1.5 crore in the IPL 2024 auction.
Rumors had it that it was due to the huge difference in his price that he was avoiding playing this season for IPL. As well as he’s risking his body ahead of the T20 World Cup.
However, those rumors were called baseless by Hasaranga’s manager who in a statement to Cricbuzz said, “We could have enrolled for an INR 2 crore base price if money was a factor. Besides, fewer games mean less money. He has to take care of his ankle. He is also the captain of the national team.”
SRH will surely feel Hasaranga’s exit because he was supposed to be an essential part of their bowling lineup. To make up for his absence, the squad will now rethink their approach and see other options.
At the moment, Hasaranga’s main priorities are getting better from his injuries and getting back to full health. To guarantee his availability for further international series, he must put his long-term well-being first, especially with significant events like the T20 World Cup approaching.
In the meantime, SRH will have to cope without Wanindu Hasaranga, their best spinner, and will need to pull together as a unit to get beyond this loss and carry on with their IPL 2024 campaign.
