Virat Kohli’s Childhood Coach Reflects on His Journey to Greatness

Virat Kohli

Recalling a time he met young Kohli at the age of 10 in a video by Star Sports, Rajkumar Sharma said. It was going to be a meeting that signaled the start of an incredible phase in cricket. When asked about the inception of Virat Kohli in his academy, which is the West Delhi Cricket Academy, Sharma indicated the particular day of the occurrence as very monumental in the history of cricket. The legendary coach said:

He came with his father and elder brother; that also was the day when our academy was inaugurated; I still remember the date: April 30, 1998. He was a boy who wanted to always be in the middle; he wanted to bat, bowl, and field; he wanted to always be in the center of the action. As per his age, he had immense power, which was missing in other boys.

The Passion for Cricket

Rajkumar Sharma’s testimonial focusing on youth revealed that Virat Kohli possessed a natural desire and raw talent in him. It also reveals that, unlike other kids of his age, Virat Kohli had the power of enthusiasm in addition to authority. He began with an eagerness that can only be described as a fanaticism of playing as well as being involved in every aspect of the game, something that can be seen as a virtue throughout his whole career.

Batting’s talent is clear, but his mischievousness turns out to be a problem. Ajmer Sharma described the challenge of handling a child as energetic as Pujara, but he said it was refreshing that Virat Kohli had a great passion to succeed in his heart. This determination was often seen when Virat Kohli did not want to leave the nets—something quite frequent in the case of the Indian captain.

This man happened to be a batsman of some type and was extremely keen on it. And once he went into the nets, he could not get enough of it and never wanted to come out again. He wished to carve hours out for batting. Once I would invite him to come out, he would respond. The coach added:

‘Please, sir, let me play two more rounds.’ He used to get a lot of scolding because he was very naughty since the beginning. But he was a good learner and very serious about cricket. We could see that this guy could make it big.

Through playing childish cricket under the direction and supervision of his father, Rajkumar Sharma was able to construct a tremendous career in his childhood. On the other hand, Virat Kohli’s aggressive cricketing approach and hard-working characteristics drove him to attain great heights at a tender age. Rajkumar Sharma made an influential contribution to the making of this great Virat Kohli and inculcated the required skills and discipline pertinent to the hard knocks of top-level cricket.

Virat Kohli’s Continuing Legacy

It is also a fact that Virat Kohli could not have made the kind of contribution to cricket that he has had he not worked so hard and had the sort of basic training that he got from Rajkumar Sharma. He has recently clinched a brilliant victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup final, making himself the greatest cricketer in the world. People are anxiously waiting for his comeback on the field during the ODI series against Sri Lanka starting on July 27.
