With Indian veteran cricket players such as Virat Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma, the team is determined to perform well in the creases of the tournament after a disappointing elimination in the T20 World Cup semi-final in 2022.
The pinnacle event of the T20 format is scheduled to start on Sunday when the USA will face Canada. On the other hand, India will be up against Bangladesh in the warm-up match on Saturday. This will be India’s first scheduled encounter at a competitive level since they set camp in the United States of America.

Yashasvi Jaiswal is considered a promising young talent who may be included in the top order of the team during the tournament. However, there is an exception, and his name is Sanjay Manjrekar, an ex-Indian cricket player and current commentator. He said that Jaiswal could be out of the playing XI altogether because, for India, he is expected to open along with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, which the commentator feels is a wrong move.

Manjrekar’s Perspective
Manjrekar voiced his opinions as follows: “I wouldn’t have done that. I would have liked to retain a slightly younger group of players. But the selectors have made their choices and now set their sights on icons like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. One simply cannot have Kohli at number three because one loses the best of Kohli then. ”

Even though the recently concluded IPL 2024 season was not so successful for the Indian team, Kohli and Rohit showed some differences in their performance levels during the matches. Kohli produced an aggressive display, duly scoring 741 runs in 15 matches at an explosive strike rate of 154. This was his career-best score till now and the highest individual score by any batsman in IPL season 3.
While Rohit managed to score 417 runs at an impressive strike rate of 150. 00, the latter figures represented his highest strike rate for a summer. However, concerning their overall performances, Rohit’s team, the Mumbai Indians, experienced a terrible outing as they lost most of the games and compiled a total of just 4 wins in 14 matches to end the tournament in the last position in the table.
This will be a great opportunity for India to carry forward the T20 success they have achieved in the IPL. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and the entire team will be expected to do magic for India. That is why the warm-up match against Bangladesh will be particularly important for the team, as it will allow them to practice the strategies and create efforts for the start of the tournament. Team India has a chance to figure out the permutation and combination before they start their World Cup Campaign.
