Before receiving the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award for 2023, ex-Indian captain and batting guru Virat Kohli had a warm moment with Rinku Singh. Kohli, who was one of the most effective batsmen in the current era, also dominated the 2023 ODI World Cup by scoring the most runs and being instrumental in taking India to the final.

Though there was no change in the team management in the following years, the 35-year-old Kohli came back to his style in 2023. Where he scored 1,377 runs in 27 ODIs with a superb average of 72. 47 and a strike rate of 99.13. He achieved six centuries and eight fifties in his total performance.
Kohli in the ODI World Cup was super consistent as he amassed 765 runs in 11 matches at an average of 95. 62, three centuries and six fifties, the highest of them being 117.
Kohli broke the record that was set by none other than the maestro Sachin Tendulkar in terms of the most runs scored in a single World Cup campaign. He had achieved it in the World Cup competition, scoring 673 runs in the 2003 event. Further, Kohli broke Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODIs and went on to achieve his half-century of hundreds against New Zealand in the semifinal match.

In the US, before the T20 World Cup match, Kohli was awarded the ODI Cricketer of the Year and received the cap for the Team of the Year. Formalities aside, Kohli and Rinku Singh exchanged pleasantries, which were recorded by the ICC on Instagram just as a status. It is noteworthy that in the video recording from the match, Kohli can be heard saying,
“God’s plan, baby!” to which Rinku responded. Rinku has used it after winning the IPL 2024 with KKR, and it is widespread on social platforms.
Kohli entered the T20 World Cup after a splendid IPL 2024 edition, as he emerged as the Orange-capped player with 741 runs from 15 matches, an average of 61.75, and a strike rate of over 154. His IPL performance included a century and five fifties.

Embracing Cricket in the USA
Kohli recently expressed his excitement about playing cricket in the USA, praising the country for embracing the sport.
“Honestly, I never thought we would be playing cricket in any form in the States. But now it’s a reality. That tells you about the growing impact of sports in the world, and the United States is more than willing to accept the change and will probably be the first one on a global scale to do so.
In a way, with the World Cup,” Kohli said in a video message.
