The Utah Utes against the University of Miami. For the first time on ESPN, the University of Utah will play against the University of Miami on the football field. The event will take place a few years from now in Vegas at Allegiant Stadium. This long overdue event will pit the Big 12 Conference against the ACC. These teams will face off on Labor Day Weekend 2027. As time passes, the details will be announced.
This matchup is going to be another spotlight game for Miami. They have a reputation for opening seasons against some of college football’s best teams, like Alabama, Florida, and Florida State. Now, they will be reaching across the country for a game with the Utah Utes.
Utah Utes Will Be Going To Vegas Against Florida
Miami Head Coach Mario Cristobal has some experience facing off against Utah from the time he was at Oregon.
John Saccenti, the executive director of the Vegas Kickoff Classic and SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl, spoke about this event, saying,
“One of the great things about college football is that there are still first-time matchups like this one to capture the attention of fans across the nation.”
The Utes have a proud record of 17-8 in the major bowl games. After a great last season, they landed in fifth place with an overall record of 8-5.
“This is a tremendous showcase for our football program,” said Mark Harlan, the Director of Athletics for the University of Utah.
“We are excited for this opportunity to match up against the Miami Hurricanes. It is a testament to our program and our great fans to participate in this type of event, and when the time comes, we will paint Allegiant Stadium red once again.”
The University of Miami is Coming With Gifts For Utah
Harlan wasn’t the only one with positive words. Dan Radakovich, Vice President / Director of Athletics at the University of Miami, said,
“We are excited to kick off the 2027 season against Utah in the Vegas Kickoff Classic. It not only gives our program an opportunity to play a great non-conference opponent on a national stage but also gives our fans the chance to cheer on the Hurricanes in a world-class venue at a destination location.”
The Miami Hurricanes are one of the most popular teams in the nation. The University of Miami is among the most decorated Division I football programs as well. They won the fourth-most National Championship in college football history. They are tied with USC and Ohio State with five national championships.
There is something else that these two schools have in common that they will be fighting for. Both these Universities refer to themselves as “The U.” Could we set them up to fight for the right to call themselves “The U?”
If they don’t, it can be a writer’s nightmare: U is facing off against U for you and you can watch U and U for you in Vegas and so on. That’s a whole lot of U’s on the field to watch for you.
It will be another great American Revolution battle of brother versus brother, changing the compass slightly between East and West. It is a match a long time coming, and thanks to all those working hard to make firsts happen, it will be another great first in college football.
