This Summer League exhibition keeps getting exciting as the Utah Jazz vs. Oklahoma City Thunder match will be held at Delta Center on July 9, 2024.
The Utah Jazz came from a competitive win against the Memphis Grizzlies (97-95). The Jazz Summer League debut game ended with a draw at the end of the second half, which forced an overtime play.
The Oklahoma City Thunder missed their 2024 NBA 12th overall draft pick, Nikola Topic, due to a knee injury in their debut game. The Thunder finished with a 10-point margin loss against the Philadelphia 76ers (92-102). However, despite the loss, the OKC Thunder second-round picks give the franchise the hope of a better future.
Could there be a dramatic turnaround for the Oklahoma City Thunder?

Utah Jazz
The Utah Jazz’s No. 10 overall 2024 draft pick, Cody Williams, was nowhere to be found against the Memphis Grizzlies. While other youngsters were putting in the work, the 19-year-old forward was quiet. He got six points and five rebounds. Cody struggled with five field goal attempts and couldn’t make his three-point attempt. It could be that the Jazz forward is still trying to get his feet wet playing in the NBA. Finally, Cody is young and, therefore, has the potential to develop his skills.
The Jazz shooting guard, Keyonte George, was impressive against the Grizzlies. The 20-year-old guard brought his NBA experience to the court as he got 30 points, making 17-of-19 free throws. George played offense aggressively to draw those fouls, which gave his team an advantage over the Memphis Grizzlies. However, his shooting percentage in the field and beyond the arc was quite low. In his first season with the Utah Jazz, he averaged 13.0 points and 4.4 assists in 75 games. Therefore, he has the potential to explode offensively against the OKC Thunder.
Oklahoma City Thunder
The OKC Thunder first-round pick, Dillon Jones, tried to get his footing in the game against the Philadelphia 76ers. The 6’ 5 forward got nine points, seven assists, and ten rebounds. Dillon wasn’t quite in his bag during his debut Summer League match. However, the 22-year-old could dominate against the Jazz. In college, Jones averaged 15.0 points and 9.4 rebounds, making 49.9% of his shot attempts. Thus, he should get his footing against the Utah Jazz team.
Despite coming from a debut loss, Ajay Mitchell had a more round game. Ajay could contribute well on both sides of the court to get 14 points and four assists, making 6-of-10 field goal attempts and 50% of his three-point attempts. To enhance the team’s defense, the 6’5 point guard recorded three defensive rebounds and steals with two blocks. Ajay Mitchell gradually developed as a 3-and-D player in his career and could bring that to the court against the Jazz.
Possible Breakout Players of the Game
Utah Jazz
Isaiah Collier would be an interesting player to watch in this game. In his debut Summer League game, the Jazz point guard came off the bench to score 14 points, making 5-11 field goal attempts and 2-5 three-pointers. Defensively, he totaled six rebounds (five defensive rebounds) and three steals to enhance his team’s offense.
Oklahoma City Thunder
Keyontae Johnson is on a two-way contract with the OKC Thunder. The 2023 second-overall pick played one season at the OKC Blue and averaged 19.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 32.2 minutes played with 52.2 FG% and 39.2 3P%. In his debut game off the bench, the small forward got 12 points, three defensive rebounds, one block, and a steal. He could have a better round game against the Jazz.
