Nineth seated USU Aggie ladies are making history as they haven’t been beaten yet after their meeting with Weber State. The Aggies smashed the Wildcats 4-2 on Wildcat’s soccer Field. Being on the road didn’t seem to be too difficult for them from the very beginning but they did, however, left some doubt just before halftime.
With this win the Aggies have matched their best recorded start and also their longest soccer winning streak in program history. This winning streak and fantastic performance were almost cut short by Weber State as USU was losing for the first time this season and had to fight extra hard for this one. This is how they did it.
USU Almost Lost Everything
The Aggies have started hard and have set the pace of the games they are in by scoring early. They wasted little time as well in this case in getting on the board early in just the first six minutes of the match. Senior defender Addy Weichers used her head getting her second goal in her college career. She leapt and scored from a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Summer Diamond.
USU kept the pressure on for almost the entire first half as they had attempted 8 shots while holding Weber to half that many. However, just before half time Wildcat Ali Swensen tied the score 1-1.
In the second half things got worse for the Aggies as Weber State’s Lily Blum shot from almost 20 yards out of the box and got the Wildcats second goal of the game. This gave Weber State the lead but also handed USU their first deficit of the season.
This new situation for the Aggies could have given Weber State the opportunity to take down USU from their undefeated thrown. Sophomore forward Kate Christian wasn’t going to stand for that when Diamond gave her the assist for the Goal to tie things up 2-2 62 minutes into the game. These two got a taste for the win and weren’t going to stop there just a minute later. Diamond returned the favor when she got an assist for Diamonds goal putting the Aggies on top.
Just nine minutes later freshman forward and midfielder Austin Miller danced with the ball tricking the goalie and scored the last one of the game. Giving USU 4 and Weber State 2 at the end.
USU Best Winning Streak Since 2011
With this win against Weber State the Aggies have tied their best winning streak since back in 2011. Some of their players continue to make history such as Summer Diamond who has now four in this season and eight in her career. To say nothing of having two assists in the game.
Addy stepped things up in this one and got her first goal of the season and the second of her career. She was just behind Kate’s record as it was her third goal of the season and fifth career goal. Miller has now come between them as this was her third both career and season goal.
Now that USU has beaten Weber the Aggies have overcome all four in-state rivals. Not only have they taken all of them they have done it all on the road away from their home field. Adding their goals they have achieved so far this year surpasses their combined 28 goals they got last season.
The Aggies record is 8 wins and no losses so far this season and will return to their home field on Thursday where they will host Washington State. So far Washington is coming to USU with a record of 3-3-2 with all the hopes of bringing down the Aggies before they go 9 and 0 doing what no other Aggie soccer team has done.
