In the seventh professional grappling event held at the UFC APEX, UFC Fight Pass Invitational 7 had the eyes of the Brazilian jiu-jitsu world on May 15. In the deepening world of competitive grappling, the world’s premiere mixed martial arts organization has become a staple of the industry since its inaugural event in 2021.
UFC FPI 7 was the second edition of the promotion in 2024, following UFC FPI 6 on March 3.

As a highly marketed event, UFC FPI 7 was headlined by Brazilian jiu-jitsu stars Nick Rodriguez — commonly referenced by fans as ‘Nicky Rod’ — and Mason Fowler. Rodriguez, 27, and Fowler, 31, have been two of the most recognizable grapplers for several years but failed to face off against each other before May 15.
The co-main event featured UFC fan favorite lightweight Renato ‘Money’ Moicano, as the promotion allows for the inclusion of its contracted MMA fighters to compete. Moicano, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt with ten career submissions in MMA, entered the night as a heavy favorite against experienced grappler Cristian Guzman.
At the time of the event, Moicano sits as the no. 10 ranked lightweight in the UFC rankings. Though UFC Fight Pass Invitational events have traditionally featured several UFC fighters, Moicano was the lone participant from the roster.
Earlier in the night, married couple Renato and Raquel Canuto were also on the card. Raquel Canuto impressively bested Aislin O’Connell in the fourth match of the night while Renato Canuto arguably had the highlight of the evening with a heel hook submission of Aaron Wilson several minutes later. With the two respective wins, the Canuto couple became the first married pair to both pick up wins at the same UFC Fight Pass Invitational event.
The win would be the second of the year under the UFC banner for Raquel Canuto, who submitted UFC bantamweight Karol Rosa at UFC FPI 6.
