Usman Khan, UAE’s Pakistan-born top-order batter, has been called to Pakistan’s training camp, possibly indicating a move to represent his birth country.
Even though Usman currently plays for the UAE, his participation in the camp suggests Pakistan’s interest in him. There’s a great chance of his selection for the T20I series against New Zealand and the T20 World Cup. The camp, running from March 26 to April 8, includes 28 other players such as Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir, and Haris Rauf.
Big Picture Behind Usman Khan’s Selection
In the recently concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024, the top-order batter played as an overseas player for the Multan Sultans and finished as the second-highest run-scorer.
The Pakistan Cricket Board did not specify why Usman was included in the camp. According to the latest updates, Usman still has the option to switch back to Pakistan and has not yet represented the UAE cricket team.
On Monday, the PCB announced the list of 29 players attending the training camp, organized in collaboration with the Pakistan Army, to prepare for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand and the T20 World Cup.
“The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) today announces that 29 players will undergo a fitness camp in Kakul, Abbottabad. The camp was organized in collaboration with the Pakistan Army. Strategically designed to prepare the players for the upcoming series and tournaments. It includes the home T20I series against New Zealand, the away T20I series against Ireland and England, and the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup in USA and West Indies,” PCB said in a statement.
Who Else is Part of The Camp?
Pakistan’s training camp also sees the return of two players. They recently reversed their decision to retire, expressing their desire to play for Pakistan again.
Imad Wasim, with his success in the PSL and track record in the CPL, presents an attractive option for Pakistan. He came out of retirement over the weekend, followed by Mohammad Amir. Who expressed his dream of playing for Pakistan again.
Haris Rauf, currently recovering from a shoulder injury. He has also been included after the PCB reinstated his central contract.
