Tyson Fury still believes that he is a better boxer than Oleksandr Usyk despite losing to the Ukrainian for the undisputed heavyweight title.
In an exclusive interview released on June 20 with his self-created brand ‘Furocity,’ Fury gave his thoughts on his fight with Usyk on May 18. The 35-year-old was briefly joined by his father before sitting down for a solo four-minute clip. The video featured the first time the former champion publicly spoke freely on the fight since leaving Saudi Arabia.

On the Furocity YouTube channel, Tyson Fury called Oleksandr Usyk an “easy” fight that he believed he won. ‘The Gypsy King’ said he had “too much fun” during the bout, which ultimately caused him to lose.
Fury said:
I thought I boxed the head right off of [Usyk] for most of the rounds. He busted my nose in round eight, got the 10-8 in round nine and I gave him round 10. But other than that, I didn’t give him any other rounds… It was actually a lot easier than I thought it’d be… I was lighting him up and laughing at him. My problem was I probably had too much fun. It was too easy. It was like I was in there with a local amateur boxer. I was enjoying it too much, messing around and paid the ultimate price in round nine.
At the end of the 12-round fight, one judge scored the bout 114-113 in favor of Fury but the remaining 115-112 and 114-113 scorecards were in favor of Usyk, making him the winner and undisputed heavyweight champion. The two heavyweights are scheduled to rematch in December.
Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk Stats
Per Compubox, Fury out-landed Usyk in each of the first six rounds but failed to land more punches in any of the final six. Usyk would get the only knockdown of the fight in the ninth round when he had Fury badly hurt and nearly ended the fight.
In total, Usyk landed 170 punches, the most Fury has ever allowed in his 36-fight career. The six rounds that Fury was out-landed was also the most that he had ever ceded.
With the win, Usyk conquered his second division after previously holding the undisputed cruiserweight titles. He would also become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis and the first Ukrainian to achieve the feat. Wladimir Klitschko, the last Ukrainian heavyweight champion, lost his title to Fury in 2015 before he could hunt for undisputed status.
