Wide Receiver Tyler Lockett Released By Seattle Seahawks After 10 Seasons

Lockett

The Seattle Seahawks are releasing Wide Receiver Tyler Lockett. He posted a farewell message to the franchise on X on Wednesday afternoon. Seattle will release the wide receiver before he is due a $5.3 million roster bonus on March 16. Lockett was set to make $17 million for the 2025 season.

Lockett’s career with the Seahawks was tremendous. He had 661 receptions, 8,594 receiving yards, and 61 receiving touchdowns during his decade-long tenure in Seattle. The franchise cornerstone was a security blanket for Quarterback Russell Wilson for years and created a dynamic receiving duo with DK Metcalf over the last few seasons.

Lockett was drafted in 2015. He missed the team’s heyday which included “The Legion Of Boom” and back-to-back Super Bowl appearances. Regardless, he still left an indelible impact on the team. How will the wide receiver’s tenure with the team be remembered?

Where Will Lockett Play Next Season?

The veteran wide receiver is coming off one of the worst seasons of his career. That presumably led to the Seattle Seahawks believing he is no longer worth such a hefty salary. Even though Lockett is coming off a subpar season, he should have a healthy market this offseason. The list of teams looking for a veteran wide receiver is vast.

A few teams that should go after Lockett this offseason are the Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Dallas Cowboys. The veteran, 32, will want to sign with a contender as he looks to finish his career on a high note. A change of scenery could help revitalize the wide receiver as he looks to regain his form from a few years ago.

Final Thoughts

His contributions to the franchise will not be forgotten any time soon. He is second in franchise history in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. Even though he will play somewhere else next season, Lockett will always be a legend for the Seahawks.
