Trossard Late Minute Goal Delivers Arsenal an Hard fought win

Arsenal hosted Leicester at the Emirates for the Matchday 6 clash. Prior to the game, the Gunners had faced a tough City side at the Etihad. However, they nearly pulled a big win, but they were denied by a late stones goal, allowing them to draw 2-2. So far the Gunners are unbeaten this season, and they seem to be maintaining a consistent form.

Ahead of their game against Leicester Mikel Arteta fielded his best lineup with the likes of Trossard taking the role of 10 meant for Martin Odegaard who is out injured. At the start of the game, the Gunners dominated, however in the second half it became tricky, and it nearly ended in a disappointing turn for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Arsenal vs Leicester: First Half

The Gunners started well controlling the game. Leicester tried to keep a defense line, but they were caught off guard soon with a beautiful Timber cross that found Martinelli who slotted in the first. Soon the Gunners persisted for the second. It wasn’t easy without Odegaard in their team, however, they found the second after a level of persistence. Martinelli squared in a ball to Trossard who made it 2 nil. Arsenal ended the first half in proper control of the game.

Arsenal vs Leicester: Second Half

The 2nd half became tricky, as Leicester pulled one back through a set piece from Buanonate, which discovered Justin’s head deflecting off an Arsenal player to the net. The Goal immediately gave Leicester the morale to fight back, a cross from Ndidi found Justin who fired a beautiful volley giving the complete comeback. It was 2-2.

Arsenal soon embarked on a journey of finding a winner however, Leicester’s Goalie Hermansen deprived the Gunners on several occasions. In the 90+ minutes, a Saka corner saw Trossard play a faint shot toward the goal, and Ndidi’s body deflected it on goal giving Arsenal the winner. A few minutes before the end of the game the Gunners saw a quick counter, which Gabriel Jesus tried to convert, Hermansen saved but the rebound saw Havertz seal the 4-2 lead.

Man of the Match

Leandro Trossard was Arsenal’s best player. He had two goals in the game. The Gunners started well in the second half and he was key to the attack. However, in the second half, Mikel Arteta’s side slept off allowing Leicester in. Trossard last minute goal gave them the needed victory. In the first half, he was able to hold on to the Odegaard role performing greatly.

Another Player for the Gunners was Gabriel Martinelli, who was stellar until he was substituted. The Brazilian scored and provided an assist. His form had been questioned lately, however in the game he was able to remind the critics of his quality. He was dominant in his wing till he was removed. Mikel Arteta will hope his side can improve and get better ahead of the games coming next, in the UCL, and the Premier League. He’ll also be anticipating the return of Merino who is yet to make his start for the team.
