Since rejoining WWE in November 2023 at Survivor Series, Punk has returned to the WWE Performance Center and NXT on several occasions due to injury or as a TV talent. On the October 1 NXT episode, Punk will be a guest referee in the NXT Title bout between Trick Williams and Ethan Page, as both wrestlers came face to face in the previous event and were ready to fight.
But CM Punk slid himself in the middle and stopped them from fighting. Their match is scheduled for the upcoming Tuesday, and Punk knew that the special event would need a special referee, so he said he would be the special referee of the event.
Appreciation from Trick Williams
Following being announced as the special guest referee for the Ethan Page vs. Trick Williams bout for the NXT World Championship match at the upcoming debut of NXT CW on October 1 in Chicago, Illinois, it will also be great for Punk the appearance and performance of Punk in NXT.
This backyard was not seen again until September 24, when Punk appeared backstage, seated next to Je’Von Evans, chatting. Trick Williams then came inside, and they had a few words to say.
Trick Williams said this in the interview”CM Punk has been great to us here at NXT. We have athletes from all over, all different backgrounds. We have a little bit of everything here at NXT, and CM Punk has found a way to be able to be helpful to us all. Not just me, all of us. We sit down and take the knowledge. We learn from CM Punk. The fact that he’s special guest referee in Chicago is huge for us. I’m super excited for it. I know he’s going to call it down the middle.”
CM Punk being the Hero
Williams talked about the ups and downs that Punk faced in his career until now and he appreciates that. Punk also appreciated him and talked about Ethan’s history and how he always cheated to win the matches but this time Punk being the referee, he is not letting that happen. Trick Williams showed his appreciation by saying this.
“I watched you start at the bottom, I watched you win the title, I watched you lose the title, but you’re still in the championship mix. Punk clarified to Williams that he is not going to favor him in any case by saying. “I’m proud of you and you should be proud of yourself. Listen, I know he’s going to try to cheat, that’s why I’m the special guest referee. I’m not letting him cheat, I’m not letting you cheat — I’m not saying you’re gonna, that’s not your style, I know that.”
Final Thoughts
Punk believes that he is doing his best for the future of NXT by doing justice to each of the competitors. People have different predictions about Punk’s role in the match, but most people think that Punk is going to be like Seth Rollins and a one-sided referee.
But Punk has already clarified that he will not favor Williams. If Page dominates Williams legally and in the right way, then there will be no one stopping Punk from raising Page’s hand.
