Trea Turner Returns To Form On June 21 With Wonderful Game

Trea Turner got back to his vintage self on Friday night.

Philadelphia Phillies Shortstop Trea Turner accomplished something on Friday night that he had not done since April 14. For the first time in over two months, Trea Turner hit a home run. He hit a two-run shot in the bottom of the third inning tonight against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Turner also legged out an RBI infield single in the bottom of the seventh inning. He went 2-of-4 with three RBI in Philadelphia’s 5-4 loss.

Trea Turner returned to the diamond earlier this week following a hamstring injury that sidelined the perennial MLB All-Star for two and a half months. He is hitting .344 this season with three home runs and 12 RBI.

Will Turner be able to carry this momentum into the weekend as he continues to improve following an extended absence?

Trea Turner Career Summary

Trea Turner made his MLB debut in 2015 as a member of the Washington Nationals. He spent parts of his first seven seasons in the “Nation’s Capital” before being dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the 2021 MLB Trade Deadline. He spent nearly a year and a half in Los Angeles before signing with the Philadelphia Phillies before the 2023 MLB season. He signed an 11-year 300,000,000 contract with the Phillies.

Trea Turner finished second in Rookie of The Year Voting in 2016 and is a two-time MLB All-Star(2021, 2022). He also won the Silver Slugger Award in 2022 and the 2019 World Series with the Washington Nationals. He is a career .299 hitter with 153 home runs and 522 RBI.

Phillies Season Summary

The Phillies(49-26) have the second-best record in Major League Baseball behind only the New York Yankees. Philadelphia has one of the best offenses in the league this season. They are fourth in batting average, tied for fifth in home runs, and fourth in runs scored. Their offense is led by Third Baseman Alec Bohm, First Baseman Bryce Harper, and Designated Hitter Kyle Schwarber. Bohm is 10th in the league in batting average(.301) and fourth in RBI with 60. Both Harper and Schwarber lead the team with 17 round-trippers.

Philadelphia’s pitching staff has also been great in 2024. They lead the league in ERA, are second in strikeouts, and fifth in opposing batting average. Starting Pitcher Ranger Suarez is tied for the league lead in wins while being second in ERA. Zack Wheeler is top 10 in the league in both wins and strikeouts.

Philadelphia Phillies Upcoming Schedule

The Phillies play the second game of their three-game set tomorrow afternoon against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Following their series at home against the defending National League champions, the Phillies travel to Detroit for a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers.

Philadelphia is in prime position to make a deep run in the 2024 MLB Playoffs. Trae Turner will only get better as he continues to acclimate to the league and will provide a star-studded Phillies lineup with another quality bat. One of the best offenses in the league will get a massive boost from Trae Turner for the home stretch of the 2024 regular season. The team is looking for their first World Series title since 2008.
