Kansas City Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce Sets Super Bowl Record

Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce entered Super Bowl LIX against the Philadelphia Eagles on the doorstep of history. He was then able to write his name in the NFL history books. He needed three receptions to pass Wide Receiver Jerry Rice for the most receptions in Super Bowl history.

He made history on a 9-yard reception from Quarterback Patrick Mahomes. It was a first half Kelce would like to forget though as he was held without a catch in the first half for the first time in his playoff career. He did not record his first catch until late in the third quarter. Will the star tight end ever play in the NFL again?

Kelce’s Postseason Resume

Kelce is already one of the best performers in playoff history. He entered the Super Bowl in second place all-time in postseason receiving yards, 207 behind Rice. The star Kansas City Chiefs tight end came into the game as the postseason leader in receptions. He is also third all-time in total postseason touchdowns and second all-time in postseason receiving touchdowns behind Rice.

Final Thoughts

There was some discussion that tonight’s game could be the final one of Kelce’s illustrious career. The future Hall of Famer could go in two different directions this offseason. He could come back motivated and try to go out on a high note, or come to the realization he is not the player he once was. This Super Bowl drubbing will lead to soul searching from every member of the Chiefs organization.
