Trae Young Praises Klay Thompson In Top 5 Discussion

Trae Young named Klay Thompson one of the best shooters in the league.

Atlanta Hawks star Point Guard Trae Young recently praised Dallas Mavericks Shooting Guard Klay Thompson in a top five discussion. Young, 26, appeared on the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast and was asked to list the top five shooters in the NBA today. The 26-year-old’s list consisted of himself, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Damian Lillard, Klay Thompson, and Stephen Curry.

Young’s list drew mixed emotions from NBA fans, from Klay Thompson’s subpar stats from last season to Keegan Murray’s supposed lead over Thompson. Here’s what you need to know about the recent discussion.

Trae Young’s List

Klay Thompson

Trae Young recently appeared on the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast and shared an unpopular opinion when asked about his top five shooters in today’s NBA. NBACentral posted on X, formerly Twitter, that Young’s top five shooters were himself, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Damian Lillard, Klay Thompson, and Stephen Curry. Young’s praise for Thompson was a nice compliment even though Thompson’s NBA career can speak for itself with its four NBA championships, five NBA All-Star selections, and two All-NBA Third Teams.

Thompson’s Perception

Klay Thompson’s perception among NBA fans in general is a bit direct but understandable. Thompson’s perception is reportedly based on the question, “What have you done for me lately?” The above question could be interpreted in more ways than one, but some NBA fans might be right. Thompson’s final game with the Golden State Warriors saw a 0-for-10 shooting performance in a Play-In Tournament elimination game. However, other NBA fans might turn out to be right, as there’s a chance that Thompson could benefit from a change of scenery in Dallas, Texas.

Young’s Somewhat Right

Although Trae Young’s list has drawn mixed emotions among social media critics in general, Young’s somewhat right in his inclusion of Klay Thompson. Young appeared to overlook the social media critics’ criticism due to Thompson’s down year with the Golden State Warriors last season. Thompson’s down year in San Francisco, California, might’ve affected his legacy with the Warriors, but even in a critical year, Thompson still averaged 17.9 points per game while shooting 38.7% from deep and 92.7% from the free throw line.

In addition, Thompson averaged 3.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game last season. Thompson’s tenure in San Francisco didn’t end exactly the way he’d probably like. The former Warriors star and one-half of the “Splash Brothers” got another chance with the Dallas Mavericks. Thompson can certainly benefit from playing alongside Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, Dereck Lively II, and Daniel Gafford this coming season in Dallas, Texas, and possibly prove that he is still one of the NBA’s best.
