There is no question that Steph Curry is one of the greatest players in the NBA right now. However, former 7x All-Star Tracy McGrady has some thoughts on where he belongs on the list of greats. Most people believe that Curry is a top-ten player and that he could still get himself a fifth ring despite the Golden State Warriors’ struggles.
Tracy McGrady’s Comments on Step Curry
Tracy McGrady, former NBA shooting guard and founder of OBLHoops, made a statement on Twitter today about his thoughts on Steph Curry. The comment is in response to a post stating that Curry is a top-five all-time player. McGrady responded with:
He hasn’t cracked my top 10 yet…To me, if one of your guys is missing and you can’t make the playoffs, I can’t put you in my top 5 or top 10.
Despite the comment, McGrady captioned the video with, “Steph is easily the greatest shooter of all time.” Of course, the comments fired back at T-Mac with replies about how he never won a ring while Curry has four. Clearly, this wasn’t a popular take.
McGrady’s NBA Career
Though he didn’t win a ring, Tracy McGrady had a pretty great NBA career. He was selected as an All-Star seven times and made the All-NBA 7 times as well. He also won himself the Most Improved Player Award and was the scoring leader multiple times. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2017 after his stellar career.
T-Mac started his career with the Toronto Raptors, who picked him ninth overall in the 1997 NBA draft. He played with the Raptors for three seasons before heading to the Orlando Magic, where his stats would have a major jump. He would average his highest points per game with the team at 32.1. It wouldn’t be until his later seasons with the Houston Rockets that his stats would sharply decline, and McGrady would be preparing for retirement. He spent his last seasons jumping to the New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks, and San Antonio Spurs before retiring in 2013.
Is McGrady Right?
Steph Curry currently leads the league in three-pointers, with 3,747 points in his career. He also sits in 30th for all-time points made in the regular season with 23,668. His NBA career has been extremely impressive, and he continues to add to his numbers in every game. In his 15th season with the Warriors, he is still averaging 26.4 points per game and remains the team’s leader in points per game.
At the age of 36, he is still playing with the intensity he did when he was younger. There is a good chance that Curry has a few more years left in him, and he’ll spend them trying to get that fifth ring. I believe that due to his success with a single team and the fact that he is still contributing the amount he is, there is no question that Curry will end his career as a top ten player.
