On Friday, Mercedes discovered grave performance problems. However, George Russell came in seventh, and Lewis Hamilton had an even harder time, only managing 11th. The drivers and the Mercedes team were puzzling over the W15’s performance.
Hamilton’s comments represented the common sentiment within the team that day. Even with their best intentions, the W15’s design wasn’t producing the needed outcomes. Both drivers mentioned how far away they were from the competition, as evidenced by Lando Norris‘ leadership on the timesheets for McLaren.
