The Toronto Raptors signed newly-acquired Small Forward Brandon Ingram to a three-year $120 million contract extension on Tuesday. Ingram’s new contract also includes a player option for the 2027-28 season. Ingram was acquired by the Toronto Raptors last week from the New Orleans Pelicans before the 2025 NBA Trade Deadline.
It has been a disappointing season for Ingram. He has been out since December 7 with an ankle injury. His timeline for a return is uncertain. Toronto signing Ingram before he took one dribble for the franchise was surprising. When Ingram has suited up this season he averaged 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.2 assists. Even though Ingram was set to become a free agent this offseason, the Toronto Raptors did not have to give him a deal this early in his Raptors tenure. How will this deal work out for both sides?

It has been a terrible season for the Raptors. They are 16-37 and have dropped four straight games. Whenever Ingram is healthy enough to return to the court, he will join a Raptors team that has some talent. He will look to grow with Scottie Barnes as the franchise cornerstones for years to come. Toronto’s roster also includes Shooting Guard RJ Barrett, who is having another strong season. Ingram is part of a Raptors team that, much like him, that has been upended by injuries this season.
Toronto’s offense has not been good. They are 21st in points per game, 15th in field goal percentage, and 23rd in three-point percentage. The team’s defense has also been poor this season. Toronto is 25th in points allowed, 19th in opposing field goal percentage, and 18th in three-point percentage. Since the Toronto Raptors do nothing well, it is no surprise they have one of the league’s worst records.
Final Thoughts
It will be very enlightening to see how Ingram will mesh with his new franchise. Hopefully he can return to the court soon and build with the players he will be teammates with for years to come.
