The Toronto Raptors will be bringing back one of their star players ahead of free agency. After the 2024 NBA draft concluded, the team quickly re-signed guard Immanuel Quickley to a five-year, $175 million contract. He joined the Raptors during the regular season as part of the OG Anunoby trade with the New York Knicks and wound up playing 38 games with his new team.
In those games, he was able to shine as he averaged 18.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and 0.9 steals per game in 33.3 minutes of action. He was able to shoot the 3-ball well as he connected on 39.5% of his attempts as well. But what does this extension for Immanuel Quickley mean for the Toronto Raptors going forward?
What does the future of the Toronto Raptors look like after re-signing Immanuel Quickley?
The Toronto Raptors are in a good position for their future after locking down Immanuel Quickley to a massive extension. The team was able to draft shooting guard Ja’Kobe Walter and center Jonatha Mogbo to the team and have a pretty deep roster of young talent now.
Toronto now has RJ Barett, Jakob Poeltl, Scottie Barnes, Gradey Dick, and Immanuel Quickley all locked up through the 2026-27 season. That gives a nice core for the front office to build around after trading away a franchise star and officially hitting the reset button.
The 25th pick in the 2020 NBA draft out of Kentucky has now set himself up going forward and can continue to be a factor on a young team.
How will the Toronto Raptors play next season?
The Toronto Raptors are not going to be a great team next season as they are still young and trying to figure out how to win together. The Eastern Conference has a handful of teams who have a more complete roster but that does not mean the Raptors are going to miss the postseason completely.
They are not ahead of teams like the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Indiana Pacers, and Cleveland Cavaliers. However, expect to see Toronto competing for one of the play-in spots in the Eastern Conference and be a tough team to play as this young team will come out with a lot of energy going forward.
