Toronto Blue Jays Third Baseman Ernie Clement completed a mind-boggling act in last night’s 5-3 victory against the Los Angeles Angels. In the bottom of the second inning, Clement hit a two-run home run that was a whopping 4.60 feet off the ground. That is the highest pitch hit for a home run during the 2024 MLB season. It was the second-highest pitch hit for a home run in the pitch-tracking era (since 2008). Only a home run from Kyle Higashioka in 2022 (4.61 feet off the ground) topped the feat yesterday from Clement.
Clement’s home run helped the Toronto Blue Jays stave off a late push by Los Angeles and take the opening game of their four-game set. He is hitting .272 this season with 10 home runs and 42 RBI. Will Clement be able to keep this momentum going and help Toronto finish off the regular season well?

Clement made his MLB debut in 2021 as a member of the Cleveland Guardians. He was acquired by the Oakland Athletics late in the 2022 season and has spent the last two seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays. This season has been the only time in Clement’s career where he has been allowed to play consistently, and he has made the most of it. He is a career .250 hitter with 14 home runs and 67 RBI.
Toronto Blue Jays Season Summary
It has not been a good regular season for the Blue Jays(60-68). They are in last place in the American League and 11.5 games back of the third and final American League Wild Card spot. The Toronto Blue Jays have a less than 0.1% chance to make the 2024 MLB Playoffs. The team’s offense has been below average this season. They are 18th in batting average, 24th in home runs, and 19th in runs scored. Their offense is paced by First Baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. He leads the team in all important offensive categories and is third in the league in batting average, eighth in OPS, and top 20 in home runs and RBI.
Toronto’s pitching staff has been terrible this season. They are 26th in ERA, 23rd in opposing batting average, and 24th in WHIP. Starting Pitcher Jose Berrios leads the team in wins and ERA. The bullpen of the Toronto Blue Jays has been especially troubling this season and has cost them games. Their bullpen ERA is the second-worst in Major League Baseball(4.95).
Blue Jays Upcoming Schedule
The Toronto Blue Jays play the second game of their four-game set tonight against the Los Angeles Angels. Toronto is on its way to missing the MLB Playoffs this year after making it over the past two years. Clement has been one of the few bright spots for a weak Toronto Blue Jays offense this season. His home run last night provided a sense of excitement in what has been a rough season.
