The Toronto Blue Jays and Right Fielder Anthony Santander agree to a five-year contract on Monday afternoon worth north of $90 million. Santander had the best season of his career in 2024 with the Baltimore Orioles. He was third in the league with 44 home runs and 14th in RBI. His great regular season did not transfer to the postseason hitting .125 in his two playoff games.
The great season led to Santander’s first All-Star appearance and first Silver Slugger Award. The offseason of the Toronto Blue Jays has been summed up by their inability to sign the players they are interested in. With today’s news, that is no longer the case. Will Santander be able to build on his great season with the Blue Jays this year?

Toronto’s offseason has been largely a quiet one. They acquired Andres Gimenez and Myles Straw from the Cleveland Guardians. Toronto also signed Pitchers Jeff Hoffman and Yimi Garcia. Following a disappointing 2024 season where the Toronto Blue Jays missed the MLB Playoffs, they had high hopes for the offseason. Unfortunately, things did not go according to plan.
The franchise eyed Juan Soto, Max Fried, and Teoscar Hernandez among others in free agency, but came up empty-handed. They were also in the Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes last offseason, but he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Santander joins a Blue Jays lineup that includes First Baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and George Springer.
Final Thoughts
Santander is a stellar signing for the Toronto Blue Jays. Their offense struggled last season, and Santander is one of the best power hitters in the league. He will hope to jumpstart Toronto’s offense and assist them in returning to the MLB Playoffs.
