Top 3 Miami Dolphins To Watch In Final Preseason Game

The Miami Dolphins look towards their final preseason game as the 53-man roster cutdown date quickly approaches. Although the core of the depth chart is set in stone, the final roster cuts will come down to who performs the best on the field. The Dolphins have a joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Friday, August 23rd. The preseason matchup is unlikely to feature many (if any) starters, allowing the bottom of the roster to put their name on the map.

Erik Ezukanma returned his name to the Miami Dolphins’ receiver room after an injury ended his second NFL season. In this offseason Ezukanma has consistently delivered in practices, even earning praise from head coach Mike McDaniel.

His skills were best seen in the Dolphins’ preseason matchup versus the Washington Commanders, catching 5 of 7 passes for 65 yards. As the Dolphins’ receiving room gets thinner by the day, Ezukanma must prove his preseason performance was not a fluke to secure his roster spot.

Standing at 6-foot-2, Ezukanma is the tallest receiver on the Miami Dolphins roster. He offers a combination of size and athleticism unique to the Dolphins. The third-year player out of Texas Tech could be a unique asset for contested catches and congested plays, where his physicality can shine.

CB Storm Duck

Undrafted last April, the University of Louisville cornerback Storm Duck impressed during his college career but faced questions about his athleticism and technique. Yes, his unusual and funny name was not the only thing that was questioned. Although some expected him to be taken in a later round, he went unselected. Duck is making the most of his opportunity with the Miami Dolphins, making notable plays in preseason games and training camp sessions.

Duck played at North Carolina, where he played well for the Tar Heels before transferring to Louisville. Despite his steady performance at UNC, his single season at Louisville didn’t stand out. After the draft, Duck received offers from many NFL teams, but Miami’s track record of developing undrafted free agents drew him to the Dolphins.

The Dolphins, known for giving undrafted corners a chance—like Nik Needham and Kader Kohou—have seen promise in Duck. If he continues his strong play through camp and in the final preseason game against the Buccaneers, Duck has a real shot at securing a spot on Miami’s 53-man roster.

RB Jeff Wilson

As Jeff Wilson Jr enters his seventh season in the NFL, he looks to secure a rotational role with the Miami Dolphins. After five seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, Wilson’s role diminished with the Dolphins in 2022. Despite averaging 4.5 yards per carry in the NFL, the 27-year-old running back is on the roster bubble with Miami.

With 2,313 rushing yards underneath his belt and 566 receiving yards, Wilson has displayed the ability to make plays in the NFL. Battling younger runners like Jaylen Wright and Chris Brooks for the third and fourth running back spots, Jeff Wilson could use a splash play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to keep his name fresh on the coaches’ minds.
