Toni Kroos might be done with his playing days, but that doesn’t mean he has hung up his boots quite yet. After all, many managers wear their boots on the pitch when they are showing tactics, coaching teams, or helping out in a drill. And it seems like Kroos’ love for the game just hasn’t quite ended yet, as he has announced that he will still have a role at Real Madrid even after retiring from being a leader on the pitch.
Now, he will just have to learn how to be a leader OFF of the pitch. And since the leadership role came to him so naturally during his playing days throughout multiple clubs and for his country, it seems as though this is a natural progression for the German who has had an illustrious career.
Toni Kroos New Managerial Role
Toni Kroos couldn’t stay away from the beloved game for too long. Just days after he retired from Real Madrid after winning the coveted Champions League trophy against Borussia Dortmund, Kroos announced that he would undertake a new managerial and coaching role at the club once he is officially off the pitch.
The German defender has decided that after the international tournament this summer, the Euro 2024 that everyone is talking about, he will retire with grace.
‘The day of my presentation at Real Madrid, the day that changed my life. My life as a footballer – but especially as a person. It was the start of a new chapter at the biggest club in the world. After 10 years, at the end of the season, this chapter comes to an end. I will never forget that successful time!’
Fans were dismayed and shocked to hear that Toni Kroos would officially be leaving the club. But, then they were immediately overjoyed at the fact that he would be staying with the Spanish giants in another capacity to pass on his knowledge, skills, and tactical awareness.
‘I will work in the Real Madrid youth academy.’
Not only will his presence elevate the level of the club, but he will be able to pass on his legacy to up-and-coming kids who can then follow in his footsteps.
Toni Kroos’ Career at Real Madrid
Toni Kroos already had a promising career before joining the Spanish club, but ever since he put on a Real Madrid jersey, his fame, and stardom have skyrocketed. Kroos joined Real Madrid in 2014 from Bayern Munich, a club in his home country, for an incredible bargain of under $30 million – an absolute steal for such a high-level player.
Toni Kroos quickly found his feet under the manager, new playing style, and team, and helped lead his team to victory in five Champions League finals.
During his time at Real Madrid, Kroos amassed more than 300 appearances and scored 22 goals as a defender. His 300+ appearances from 2014 to 2024 are some of the most of any player to have ever been at the club, showing just how dedicated and consistent he was in over ten years of playing for the Spanish super team.
For Germany, Toni Kroos also has had success, having been capped multiple times for the senior team ever since his first call-up in 2010. Since then, he has been capped nearly every year for the German side, with the Euro 2024 officially his last time donning a German jersey.
