The UFC heavyweight Champion has not responded a lot to Tom Aspinall’s challenges even though he wouldn’t even like to discuss it. All that hard work hasn’t secured Aspinall the fight he has been longing for. Jones is determined to make the title defense against Stipe Miocic who is the former two-time champion and Aspinall who is the current interim heavyweight champion, is left out. However, since there is no set date for Jones against Miocic fight yet, Aspinall is keeping his fingers crossed, in case the schedule changes.
Dream Match For Tom Aspinall
Things were different at the beginning of Aspinall’s challenge. When Aspinall earned the interim title at UFC 295, he started calling out Jones and most importantly he was initially very polite about it. He met Jones a few times and tried to show respect and politeness but the same attitude was not shown by Jones. The outcome was obvious, Aspinall began criticizing Jones for dodging the battle.
As a result of this, Jones has developed a lot of hatred for Aspinall. For Aspinall, that is the last thing he would wish for in the process of the negotiation of the Treaty of Rome. Aspinall explained his right to fight his recent appearance on social media. He explained that this was the next step for him as he had defeated all his previous opponents and naturally, challenging Jones was the next thing for him.
Tom Aspinall said this about his chance. “I’m just trying to get a fight, mate. I just want to have my chance to fight for the undisputed title, of course. That’s the next natural progression. And also it’s a dream fight for me, so I’m going to push for it.”
Tom Aspinall still Hopeful for the Fight
Tom Aspinall still believes that he will get the chance to fight ‘Bones’ in UFC 309 but it is not official yet. But most importantly the fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic is also not official yet. But Dana White has confirmed that Aspinall will be the backup if any of the fighters backs off in the final moments. Aspinall is training hard consistently and keeping his body in shape for the fight in November because things might get exciting near the cage in the final moments.
This is what Tom Aspinall said about his preparation for the possible fight. “I’m training with that in mind. As far as I’m concerned, I’m training to fight potentially in November. So no matter what happens, I’ll be fit and ready to go in November. No confirmation on the fight yet, and no confirmation on if I’m the backup yet. They did tell me that after my fight, but the heavyweight title fight between Stipe and Jones is not official yet so I’m still waiting on that.”
Final Thoughts
Jon Jones will try his best to dodge the fight against Tom Aspinall because it wouldn’t be good for his undisputed record to be broken at the end of his career and most importantly in his last fights. But if Jones accepts the challenge of Aspinall, then it becomes obvious that we are going to witness one of the best fights in the history of Combat Sports.
