Ex-fast bowler Sarfaraz Nawaz gives his nod for Mohammad Rizwan as the potential Pakistan captain, making him the right choice. A talented batsman and a skipper who has taken Multan Sultans to three straight PSL finals, Rizwan has been kind enough to use his skills to steer KPK to all domestic tournaments in the recent past.
Mohammad Rizwan has proved himself capable by leading KPK, where the side has won all domestic events in the past, while the Multan Sultans ‘ skipper has been very good in recent years, which makes him the ideal choice for the position. Babar Azam is low in confidence; he should not be given the opportunity.
Sarfaraz Nawaz Backs Muhammad Rizwan
Mohammad Rizwan has the support of former fast bowler Sarfaraz Nawaz, who stated that out of all the alternatives, Mohammad Rizwan is by far the best option when it comes to captaining the Pakistan cricket team, given his successful stint with the Multan Sultans PSL team and his role in ensuring Khyber Pakhtunkhwa domestic dominance.
Sarfaraz Nawaz highlighted Rizwan’s past credentials of taking KPK to a few domestic successes and appreciated Mohammad Rizwan’s consistent performance as captain. His endorsement arrives in the wake of the T20 World Cup 2024, for which Pakistan was eliminated in the early rounds. Babar Azam has since come under fire from Sarfaraz Nawaz, who claims that the PCB appointee is deeply indecisive due to confidence problems.
Also, Sarfaraz Nawaz voiced discontent regarding the Pakistan Cricket Board for dismissing Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from the national selection committee, along with reiterating the need for a sweeping change in selection criteria.
Pakistan Cricket desires reforms to uplift the standards of the team and reassure fans of the ability of the country’s cricket boards.
Call for Overhaul in Selection Committee
Nawaz also commented on the recent issue that occurred in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) that replaced Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from the national selection committee.
He suggested that the entire selection process requires significant changes to improve the team’s performance.
The selection committee has worked collectively as was apparent during the pre-World Cup press conference with every member admitting that the team was constituted after consensus. Every member of the committee was responsible for the selection, so all should be sacked. The entire selection committee was incapable of delivering.
Major surgery is required if at all we want to put the system on the right track. There should be a three-member selection committee and the mere sacking of Wahab and Abdul Razzaq would not be enough.
Nawaz’s remarks highlight the growing calls for substantial changes within Pakistan cricket, both in terms of leadership and selection processes. As the PCB navigates these challenging times, the proposed reforms aim to restore confidence and performance within the national team. It will also provide the fans of Pakistan to see a new face lead the team after years of disappointment with Babar as captain.
