Tiger Woods Preparing For 2024 US Open With Help From His Son Charlie

Tiger Woods has had a rough start to the 2024 golf season. While he made the cut at The Masters, he didn’t make any kind of run at the leaders. At the PGA Championship, Woods missed the cut and went home after Friday’s round. He has had to leave multiple tournaments due to illness or injury. He recently had ankle surgery and still might be feeling some effects. However, he is in North Carolina preparing to take on Pinehurst No. 2 and is getting some help early in the week from his son Charlie.

On Sunday and Monday, Tiger Woods was out on the course with his caddie scouting the US Open course. On both days, his son was also close by, giving advice and watching swings. Charlie has become somewhat of a coach, helping his father through swinging drills. One of the areas where cameras caught the two collaborating was in the short game. The two were seen going through some strategies for the Pinehurst course.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen Charlie with his day at a major. The two had a similar lead-up to The Masters when Charlie helped Tiger Woods prepare for that course. Outside of being his son, Charlie is one of the best young golfers in the country. He has a +3 handicap per the Florida State Golf Association and has won multiple junior tournaments. The younger Woods attempted to qualify for the US Open but came up short.

Can Woods Notch Another Major?

While Tiger Woods has won 15 majors in his career, he only has three US Open titles, 2000, 2002, and 2008. The former champion struggles to get through all four days healthy. Woods admitted that he could ‘play all the shots,’ but the walking of 72 holes takes a toll on his ankles, feet, and knees. Part of the game of golf is being able to walk the course. This also might not be the major in which Woods excels.

The US Open often takes four straight days of precise golf. At this point in his career, Tiger Woods is simply too volatile. We see flashes of the younger version of him. His combined power and skill can lead to some amazing shots. However, the injuries have made him more erratic. One bad hole at a major championship can cost you the entire tournament. While Woods might stick around for a while, the consistency simply isn’t there.

Even though he hasn’t made much noise this season, any time Tiger Woods is at a tournament, all eyes will be on him. Can he overcome the odds and win his 16th major?
