Tiger Woods has made plenty of money in his golfing career. The 15-time major winner had a dominant run on the PGA Tour and is still one of the biggest names in the sport. Golf as a sport has had some turmoil in the past few years. The LIV Tour offered massive payouts to golfers, and many decided to jump ship. Woods, however, stayed loyal to the PGA Tour and is getting a massive payday.

The PGA Tour appreciates Tiger Woods’ loyalty. Had they lost him, it would have been a huge blow to the league. While Woods isn’t the dominant force he once was, he is well respected amongst his peers. The players who stayed loyal were rewarded with an equity stake. That stake is paying out handsomely. Woods is expected to receive $100 million in equity thanks to the restructure.
This isn’t bad for someone who has only played in two tournaments this year. Other golfers like Rory McIlroy are set to receive a payout as well. With the LIV Tour’s future in question, it will be interesting to see if any of the players who left regret their decision.
Future Of Golf
Golf is at an interesting point as a sport. On the one hand, there are plenty of big names to like and cheer for. However, interest in the sport has gone down overall. Viewership isn’t as strong as it once was. Some of this is due to golf not being as accessible a sport and some of this is due to the lack of a marketable player. While the LIV Tour was not the answer, there have been some rumblings of other leagues forming with the backing of the PGA Tour.
Tiger Woods himself was on a team that was set to launch a primetime indoor golf league using state-of-the-art technology. However, a roof cave-in at the facility in Florida caused this to be delayed. Still, a primetime golf event sounds like the type of innovation the sport needs. Time will tell whether this works, but it sounds interesting.
Final Thoughts
The PGA Tour is setting out to do what was promised to the golfers. People left for the LIV Tour because of low payouts from the tour. Tiger Woods and other are the beneficiaries and it will be interesting to see where the sport goes from here.
