As of April 27th, Thomas Tuchel has received a surge of support from fans of Bayern Munich to extend his tenure as Bayern Munich’s head coach, with a petition from the fans gathering over 16,000 signatures in just five days.
Tuchel, who recently led Paris St. Germain reached the UEFA Champions League final in 2020 then subsequently led Chelsea to victory in the UEFA Champions League the following year, previously announced he would be departing the club at the end of the season in a mutually agreed decision with the club’s hierarchy after a February slump in form that saw the team lose three consecutive games including from a position where they led VFL Bochum, a team currently in 14th position in the league, 2-0.
Fans Fight For Thomas Tuchel In Petition Statement
The move to part ways with Thomas Tuchel has left fans reeling. The decision was described by many supporters as “atrocious”, and has since sparked debate and discontent within the fanbase.
The statement by the fans whom Tuchel is affectionately referred to as “Juppel,” states the gaffer faced numerous challenges during his time in Munich, which included negative media coverage and an injury-hit squad. It goes on to champion Juppel’s pedigree by stating that his track record as a serial winner far surpasses that of the candidates being rumored to replace him, like Emery and Rangnick.
The petition then ended with a plea to both Thomas Tuchel and the Bayern Munich hierarchy to reconsider the decision to pathways because:
“As fans of FC Bayern, we want to emphasize that Thomas Tuchel is the right man and should be retained! Therefore, we are starting this petition, hoping to draw the attention of the media and, above all, the bosses of FCB! We want Juppel and noone else!”
Thomas Tuchel Remains Unmoved By Fan’s Petition
In a press conference on Friday before Bayern Munich’s next match against Eintracht Frankfurt, Thomas Tuchel said that despite the speculation in the press about his future with the club, he was choosing to remain focused on football alone.
Although he acknowledged the support from fans who wanted him to continue at the club’s helm, he stressed that they had to remain focused on the game like a student studying for a test.
“It isn’t allowed to be a priority. In the next 11 days, it’s only about football, nothing else. Whether it’s pleasant or unpleasant, I don’t allow myself to be influenced by it.”

Bayern Munich’s Resurgence In Form
After a dismal February which included a 3-0 loss to current Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, a 1-0 loss away from home to Lazio in the Champions League, and the worst of all, a 3-2 loss to VFL Bochum, in a match they had led 2-0, the Bayern Munich hierarchy had decided to dismiss Thomas Tuchel from his role as Bayern Munich coach, a role he had assumed on the 24th of March 2023.
However, following a resurgence in form, which includes qualification to the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League after eliminating Arsenal 3-2 on aggregate, coupled with the proven pedigree of the German coach, fans have expressed an overwhelming desire to retain him going into the new season, wishing to leverage on the success he is known to be capable of producing.
