Throughout his 21-year career in the National Hockey League, the story of Marc-Andre Fleury has been an amazing journey. From starting his NHL career on October 10, 2003, to ending his career on April 9, 2025, Marc-Andre Fleury will forever be remembered as one of the all-time best goaltenders and a great role model for his teammates. Here’s a brief history of his career.
Pittsburgh Penguins (2003-2017)
Marc-Andre Fleury began his National Hockey League debut on October 10th, 2003, when he was only 18 years old. Fleury ended his 2003-2004 regular season campaign on April 4, 2004, where he recorded the season with 4 wins in just 21 games played, with a 3.64 goals against average.
Fleury ended his tenure with the Pittsburgh Penguins on April 8, 2017. He recorded 18 wins in 38 games played, with a 3.02 goals against average. Later that year, Marc-Andre Fleury was dealt in the Vegas Golden Knights expansion draft due to the Penguins leaving him unprotected. The Penguins dealt Fleury because there was a much younger and more experienced goalie in Tristan Jarry. Soon came the start of a new era with the Vegas Golden Knights.
Vegas Golden Knights (2017-2021)
Coming off back-to-back Stanley Cup wins in Pittsburgh, it all came to an end when Marc-Andre Fleury was dealt in the expansion draft. Ever since he came to the team as the starting goaltender, all eyes were on him to see if Fleury would become a 4-time Stanley Cup winner. Fleury ended the 2017-2018 season with an amazing goals against average of 2.24.
After an even better career high of having a GAA of 1.99, Fleury was eventually traded to the Chicago Blackhawks. The Golden Knights gave up on Fleury because there was a younger and future goalie in Robin Lehner.
Chicago Blackhawks (2021-2022)
The following season, after Vegas traded Fleury to the Blackhawks, #29 went on to record a 2.95 goals against average in under 50 starts. Marc-Andre Fleury later requested a trade out of Chicago in July 2021, where he eventually got dealt to the Minnesota Wild.
Minnesota Wild (2021-2025)
After getting traded from Chicago, Fleury went to the Wild, where he spent 4 seasons with the team. Fleury ended his first season with the team with a 2.78 GAA but ended his final season with the team with a 2.74 GAA with the team. In his regular season career, he averaged a 2.97 GAA, won 3 Stanley Cups, won a Jennings trophy, and won the Vezina trophy for a goalie with the best GAA in the league.
The Story Of Marc-Andre Fleury Summed Up
Throughout Marc-Andre Fleury’s 21-year-long career, he left his mark as a three-time Stanley Cup champion. Despite Marc-Andre Fleury not being expected to make an appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs due to this year being his final season before retirement, it is worth noting that Fleury did so much for the teams he played for, and so much for the fans he played in front of.
Final Thoughts
If Fleury makes an appearance or two, I wish him the best of luck during his NHL playoff push. I would also like to wish him a happy retirement after this season and hope for nothing but good things for him and his family going forward.
