After the extreme excitement the French Open offered tennis fans worldwide, the Queen’s Club Championships promises to continue from where Paris stopped. With the new world No. 2 seed as the tournament’s top seed, no one would mind if you looked to the Spaniard as the overwhelming favorite for the title.
The Queen’s Club in West Kensington, London, is set to host mouthwatering Clashes from the beginning that on another day would be feisty enough to be a tournament’s final. Record title holder, Andy Murray, is set to take on a qualifier in the first round while 2021 and 2022 champion, Matteo Berrettini, won’t feature in Queen’s for this year. His fellow Stuttgart Open finalist, Jack Draper, would feature.
The Queen’s Club’s Top 3 Seeds
In the top half, world No. 2 French Open champion, and Queen’s defending champion, Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed going into Queen’s in London, would face Francisco Cerundolo in a first-round clash. You may remember Cerundolo from the 5-set French Open clash where Novak Djokovic blew his knee.
In the bottom half, the No. 2 seed, world No. 9, and current Libema Open finalist, Alex De Minaur, would take on Stuttgart Open semifinalist, Lorenzo Musetti, in the Queen’s first round. Grigor Dimitrov who made his first French Open quarterfinal appearance in the 2024 edition, and had won the Queen’s title once before, would be paired with Adrian Mannarino in the top half.
Tommy Paul Handed a Tough Opponent
In the bottom half, America’s No. 1, Taylor Fritz, is scheduled to clash with a qualifier in the first round. The American lost to Casper Ruud in the French Open fourth round, which was his third loss in eight matches, but he’d be looking to bounce back strongly in this year’s Queen’s.
Back up in the top half is a potential firecracker between Queen’s fifth seed, another American and Libema Open quarterfinalist, Tommy Paul, and a highly promising talent in Sebastian Baez. The Argentine had been solid in the Geneva Open till he had clashed with Casper Ruud, the eventual winner, in the quarterfinals.
Ben Shelton, the sixth seed of Queen’s, would be looking to put his dismal performance in the Stuttgart Open behind him when he faces the qualifier he’s paired with in the first round.
Queen’s: Fiery Clashes Galore
Holger Rune had been solid in the French Open until he ran into the unstoppable train that was the eventual finalist, Alexander Zverev, in the fourth round at Court Philippe-Chatrier. Seeded No. 7, the Danish 21-year-old will be paired with Australian Jordan Thompson in the first round.
The Queen’s No. 8 seed, Ugo Humbert, the 2024 Dubai Tennis Championships’ champion, would be paired with Matteo Arnaldi. The Frenchman would look to improve on his game and cut out the unforced errors that were his undoing against a more balanced Alex De Minaur in the Libema Open semifinal.
Other clashes in the Queen’s first round worth noting include a fiery clash between Mariano Navone and Jack Draper, Alejandro Tabilo and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Sebastian Korda and Karen Khachanov, and Milos Raonic and Cameron Norrie.
