With one of the 3 most anticipated matches on WWE RAW formerly set to be with the Scottish wrestler Drew McIntyre and Finn Balor, a last-minute change occurred because Drew McIntyre not being medically cleared to compete, Balor assumed he would automatically advance to the second round. However, RAW General Manager Adam Pearce announced that no one would get a free pass, leading to the match being between Jey Uso and Finn Balor instead.

Jey Uso ended up securing his spot in the King of the Ring quarterfinals against Ilja Dragunov as Finn went for a sling blade, but Jey ended up pinning him down with a spear.
